Lol. Wow. I’m not advertising SCA. I’m an actual parent who is tired of seeing my kids on teams with coaches who are obsessed with winning. It’s good to have a win every now and then, but if your team as a whole is not getting better (or each player is not developing), it’s worth it to try something else. I don’t know very much about it, which is why I am going to go to the invitational meeting on April 28th. It’s a Premier Academy, so I’m not sure if they participate in the OYSA premier leagues or not. But I will find out...

So, it's a club you are interested in but know little about.

Hint:. The phrase "premier academy" means diddly squat. It's marketing buzzwords, nothing more.

And with few exceptions in this country, none of them around here, being "tied" to a European club or academy is also meaningless.

There is no secret sauce or magic ingredients in youth soccer. As the Dread Pirate Roberts once advised, anyone who says differently is selling something.

For U9 - U14 they are quoting a fee of $1,900 + 3.5% Transaction fee. They are also quoting 4 tournaments at $200 - $300 (not covered by the fee) and travel expenses on top of that.

That is ... uh, ambitious for something with little to no track record and where you are not sure who you will be training with. And by "ambitious", I mean ridiculous. I agree with the commenter who said just a bunch of English accented dudes taking advantage of American soccer parents.

A transaction fee? Bwahaha. That's like the "resort fee" you now pay at Vegas casinos--not included in the price listed on expedia, but not optional, even if you have no interest in the attractions and just want a room to stay in.

These guys may or may not know much about soccer, but they do know how to fool the gullible.

And of course--most of the established clubs are cheaper than this.

Given that they aren't an established club, what tournaments do they think they are going to? Not Surf or Dallas, that's for sure.

Let’s say that all propaganda is BS

            Looked at their website.

            I’d send my kid to a program that at least says the right things about their approach to development then the;

“We are going to make your kid the bestest because of this league with this acronym attached to it. All the bestest clubs are in it, well some of them.”

Who Cares If I Don’t Know Much About SCA at this point?

There is no harm in checking out the SCA invitational on April 28th. It’s before all of the tryouts for the major clubs, so I’m not out anything.

As far as the tuition or costs go, I feel like even in a major clubs like Westside, Eastside, or Washington, I still pay up the butt for tournaments or extras like Futsal. I don’t really care about that. And I feel like all of the parents just pay it b/c we want our kids to participate.

As for a magic sauce or secret, I believe the answer is emphasis on ball handling, agility, passing, and shooting. In most of my kids’ practices, there is very little emphasis on the basics and more emphasis on scrimmaging. It’s ridiculous. A lot of kids I see on teams cannot even dribble a ball. These are the premier teams and DA teams...

                I agree.

I’ve never played the game. But I coached my kid before I was told that parents couldn’t coach at the Premier level.

But I was a good coach. Better than these guys with their playing experience and licenses. It’s all a bunch of crap.

We see the not so subtle selling and talking about your club SCA people and not buying it.

Maybe you should put flyers on everyone’s cars at soccer matches and tourneys 😎

Hey we will develop your kid. Coach has a AbCD license and the team is playing in a DAecnlusys super duper league. That’s how they will be developed.

Nevermind that 90% of the approach and structure is bull**** and a near scam.

But keep buying the 10k a year bs

Again, how to coach youth soccer isn't any great secret. There's some disagreement on various matters, but no secret sauce.

There are lots of things for coaches to work on: technique, tactics, agility, etc. and a lot of disagreement over which should be worked on when. And that's ignoring differences in style of play.

                      In general:

                      1. Truly great coaches are rare. Good coaches, fortunately, are common, but so are bad coaches. The first priority for parents should be to avoid the bad ones, the ones who will ruin the game.

                      2. Know what instruction is age appropriate. Drilling ten year olds in tactics and formations is the wrong thing--unless the kids are all geniuses at manipulation the ball already.

                      3. Watch a practice. Don't worry so much about what the coach teaches, but how he or she teaches.

                      4. Any talk of systems at this level is noise. At best, it's just marketing fluff. At worst, it indicates a coach who neglects technique for tactics, and who will sacrifice long term development for quick wins.

                        SCA Portland

Looks like SCA Portland is ran by the guys who did a great job with GPS Oregon. I guess their visa's were up and they had to find a way to stay in country. Best of luck to them.

The name really should be SNCA as in Soccer No Chance Academy. There is no chance that this venture will end as anything but a failure, though they will happily fleece families.
