    Teams hiding at Jeff Cup

Regardless if you agree about traveling out of state right now for a tournament, Jeff Cup just released boys and girls weekend brackets. There are not only a bunch of NJ teams going, but there are a bunch of teams going to basically say they did it. For example, the PSA 09 girls are in the 9th bracket. There are a bunch of other teams doing the same (come on NJ Premier). Why even bother going down to play teams the same or worse in quality than what you can play in NJ. Why go gotsoccer point and trophy hunting right now. I'm just disgusted. If you're going to Jeff Cup, at least get into a competitive flight and make it mean something.

The 09 Jeff cup only means something to the families and players. Sorry. You are way over reacting. This is young girls playing soccer period.

This is just a dumb response. Are only showcase tournaments "real soccer"? Get over yourself. Meanwhile, the same clubs do the same thing for those age groups as well. As such, I agree with the OP. Why even bother going for the 9th bracket, especially when they can clearly be much higher.

Thingd change. Just because they are signed up now doesn't mean they will actually go. It's also possible by March numbers are in better shape.

You know that you can’t just “sign up” for the top brackets at Jeff Cup, right? The teams you are referencing were likely placed lower than they had hoped. Happens often. I agree that it’s not worth traveling there to play in a low bracket, but the teams commit and pay before they k know their placement.

D played in several Jeff Cups, once on a very good team that got dropped into the bottom bracket unexpectedly. Was still a good time and decent soccer.

You can definitely chose what bracket you are on. The pay for play clubs chose to play in weaker brackets to get medals. The rule of thumb should be if you are not top 4 at the highest bracket of your age group in NJ you shouldn't bother wasting parent's money and filling them with false hopes that you have a decent program.

On the boys side they did the same thing, if you are not winning against the top teams in the state there's simply no reason to play in out of state tournaments vs weak teams.

That's the PSA way! Enter a big name tournament. Get yourself flighted in the 8th bracket. Post pictures of the medal you won at said big name tournament on Facebook, Instagram, and the like.

Jeff Cup is usually very realistic in terms of where they place teams but agreed if the club requests a lower bracket you can get moved down much easier than getting moved up.

Duh! Dan Manson from PSA has been called out over and over and over and over again in this forum for pulling that crap.

Why would any top club choose to flight themselves that low, makes no sense so you’re probably completely making this up.

Nobody places themselves in flights, tournament organizers do. For all its faults GotSoccer is one way they decide. With teams coming from all over they can't possibly figure out matchups and need something to go by. ECNL teams automatically get into higher brackets

Stop making excuses they do place themselves there, when you register for a tournament they ask you the level of your team and flight you compete in. They also do a preliminary seeding before the schedule comes out and you can request to be moved so please don't lie to these poor uninformed parents.

Our club made the excuse that due to possible mandatory quarantining none of our teams would go this year. This was the day before the brackets were posted. Wonder if they saw how far down the teams would be flighted and just said no?

07 BRYCE and NCFC ECNL teams are in flight 5 with PFs ECRL and CSA Monmouth GA teams

07 Pipeline and VDA ECNL are in Flight 4 with Arlington GA, NJ Surf South and FC Europa

08 BRYCE ECNL is in Flight 10 with nobodies while Loudoun is in Flight 6 with Riverhounds GA, Metro United GA and NJ Premier

Fun part is that the first 2 or 3 flights for the 092-07s are mostly ECNL and GA teams (and Solar (TX) ECRL team). Should make for some interesting talk on what club/league is doing better and just how bad one beats the other.
