Do you think it’s fair for teams to still expect parents to foot the bill for a coaches travel expenses.Flight, room and food or within driving distance a hotel ,gas and food.

Not really sure if they would even ask let alone expect it.

If a club doesn't charge you directly for it then they have already built it into the fees they charge you. Either way you're paying. Why should clubs or coaches (who don't make s**t) have to pay for travel to coach your kids?

Maybe because that’s what they are paid to do.?It should be an organizational tax write off anyway .

So much wrong here. Any club milking more from parents is shoddy

Exactly. Should be included in your annual dues. If not, your club is low balling the dues at the beginning of the year and then pulling from you the rest of the year. Its a sign of either a poorly run club, or an unethical club. Another sign is when things get real bad, they send out the fundraiser notice.

                    Yes. One way or another.

Our club has some events that are planned and within the budget, so the club pays. (Which means the parents pay, duh.) Other events come up and if we want to do them, it's an extra cost for the tournament and for the coaches' costs.

A tax deduction isn't worth much.

I can only hope the people posting here are the few disgruntled ones. I hope most people appreciate that the really good coaches aren't getting paid enough to give what they give - but they give it anyway. If you don't feel like the coaches are people you respect and appreciate and value -then you need to find another club where that is true. Or maybe get out of club soccer.

Is it “Fair”? of course it is.
I know you understand how a business works (revenue - expenses = EBITDA), so ultimately the customer pays for everything. Are you really asking what the best practices are for all-in vs. ala carte pricing? Built-in tourney fees vs optional? Greater Transparency for expected costs (tuition, kits, tourney fees, camps, clinics)? These are all great discussions to have, but there is no debate that all travel costs for club employees are valid expenses.

This. In my experience really good coaches are rare in club soccer. If you find a really good coach, then stick with them. Make sure the club is aware of how good they are so they compensate them fairly. This is why whole teams follow really good coaches when they leave for other clubs.

Yes and in the grand scheme of things when you have 18 or so players the cost isn't that much.

For an in state tournament there should be no asking for anything.

Here's the thing. You are paying for it, whether you know it or not. They'll ask for it directly, or bury it in the costs. Coaches are employees and expenses are covered by the employer. As is all the cases, the consumer pays one way or another.
