    Winter training

Which clubs are pushing forward this winter and developing players? Whose training indoors/outdoors? How many days per week is training? Any scrimages? Are you getting what you paid for or are are you getting more than expected?

This winter has been little different than prior winters, with the exception of masks.

Our club normally would do futsal but we use the Universities and they won’t let clubs use them. So now we play league soccer indoor. Practices are sparse right now but our club gave us extra practices in the late fall to prepare for less in the winter. Our town is not practicing at all so that’s too bad.

Having your own turf field or access to one has never been more important than this year. Indoor is limited in many states and many families and even coaches feel better with kids being outside. Weather has cooperated so far.

Is there a specific age where clubs start training outdoors during the winter?

Seems to depend on the club. Our club had u12 kids practicing outside through mid Dec but not right now. I know clubs further south in RI have u12 kids practicing outdoors regularly. I don’t think u10 practices outdoors.

No harm in little ones missing a few trainings and I think many parents feel that way. They're more likely to start getting upset about cold toes and other discomforts.

Nope but this will be more common in the future. Unless it is below freezing, clubs will practice outdoors. With more turf surfaces, milder winters and cheaper field costs for outdoors versus indoor space, you will see clubs start to utilize outdoor space more.

I think you will see shorter or more condensed seasons, more regionalized play and earlier season start in both high school and colleges .New England weather being what it is and unpredictable.

Soccer your round baby in all weather. If your club does Not have turf fields and lights your going to lose players. Parents want year round soccer now with maybe a few weeks off in the summer. If you don’t offer that players will go elsewhere. Don’t forget to offer GK training, agility, futsal and videotaped practices with analysis. If the clubs are going to compete and charge a lot well they’d better offer more too.

You think players train outside in AZ in the summer? Highetbkevel xlubs here do train all winter. Know what those states have? Much bigger populations and some high quality clubs. MA can only fix one of those things.

Fitness one day a week and indoor training 3x/week. Same as previous years.
