It might be time to add civics education back into the curriculum.
Most of these clowns, GOP included, have zero idea of country first and their lack of empathy towards the covid victims is appalling.
Would mandatory service of some type, military or civic, help address some of this?

Not the poster and of course it isn't "all Trump's fault." But his statements and actions (or often inaction), had a snowball effect among politicians and followers. He didn't take it seriously so then they didn't take it seriously. States and people that did take it seriously can only so so much to stem the tide of stupidity. He thinks he's a political leader but really he just leads a cult. Had he actually led the country he could have gotten re elected.

It wasn't all Trump's responsibility to impose lockdowns, restrictions, mask compliance, etc. at the state and local level. He did not have that authority, and he skillfully maneuvered the burden from himself to the governors and mayors.

The problem is that he also demanded fealty from his Republican party members. In order to stay on the right side of his base, local officials had to "agree" with his suggestions that the virus was a hoax, or that masks were unnecessary, or that mask-wearing regulations violated rights, or that no one was really dying from it, or that listening to the experts was somehow OPTIONAL. If Trump did not have such a strong hold over his cult, local leaders may have made different decisions that would have saved lives. He exploited the strength of his base to force local leaders to follow his plan, his regulations, his view of science and pandemic management. Guilty.

It's also troublesome the extent to which the GOP was willing to put party before country. Of course they've been doing it for years, but their getting in line behind Trump borders on treasonous.

Unfortunately, those who hate will spread it to and there are no bounds where they will go. Yes, they call themselves the party of love, but nothing in their commentary says that. Sad state to be in where you hate someone, or a group in general, so much that you will spread it no matter the audience or forum.

Very few, and it's gets smaller everyday, have an intellectual capacity to calmly discuss how each party made mistakes and how each party got some things right. For instance Cuomo did a nice job "leading" NY State in daily briefings, but really screwed up - despite the fact that he thought he was doing the right thing - sending patients back to LTC facilities. Trump's demeanor and attempt to calm the country by saying "this will pass" likely cost him the election, but his movement to shut off China, get CARES ACT through, and initiate corporate response with Project Warp Speed was good. Or at minimum he didn't screw it up. Haven't met many people who aren't blinded by TDS that are able to have a calm conversation. Sad really

Okay, let's have a calm conversation about making mask-wearing into a political statement. Accusing a reporter of wearing a mask out of political correctness, or actively undermining Fauci because he had higher approval ratings? Are you going to defend that? Are you going to defend the maskless super-spreader rallies? How do you have a calm conversation about that kind of behavior, and the decision making behind it? Is there a calm conversation to be had about ignoring science, and actively trying to discredit experts?

We can certainly discuss decisions about Cares Act, Warp Speed, the strategic question of trying to calm the markets vs. inciting pure panic, etc. There's plenty of good stuff in there. But the complete abdication of his role as the country's leader, and complete inability to care for the health and survival of its citizens --- there is no conversation to be had about that.

85% GOP. Is that better? Nothing represents the GOP more than what they did with Merick Garland vs Amy Comey Barrett. "Will of the voters" my arse, it was the will of Mitch McConnell. What the GOP has not just allowed Trump to get away with but actually get behind him is appalling. Wanting to charge people with treason and sedition? They don't even know what they're talking about. McConnell knew Biden was president over a month ago, b ut "oh let's just humor Trump for awhile". The GOP thinks they won a few small battles but what it will cost them in the end is the party itself. Good riddance.
