Great piece with many graphs showing why this will be a lot worse before it gets better. Steps needed to be taken. The death rates among the elderly are very high (my parent's assisted living place in N.C. has barred al visitor. Only staff are allowed on site).

One key difference between this and seasonal flu is one infected person infects 2-3 people vs flu it's 1:1.

      Lol....

The Bangor Daily News reports that Sen. Susan Collins on Friday said Trump should “step back” from being the public face of the pandemic response and let people like Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, take the lead.

Read John Barry's book on the 1918-19 pandemic. Yes the US government was slow to respond and hid information from the public. Fascinating read with a lot of important lessons - like how Philly chose not to cancel a huge parade while St Louis took social distancing actions right away. Philly had more deaths and had a huge spike - St Louis fewer deaths with a very modest curve in cases.

Another important lesson - viruses are very unpredictable. 1918 saw a mutation in the virus and the 2nd fall wave was much more deadly than the first. Young healthy adults died at alarming rates. Some people got it twice. So far Covid is sparing children (almost 50% of H1N1 cases were children) and younger healthy adults. Let's hope it stays that way.

                Someone wants to get fired

Leading coronavirus task force expert Dr. Anthony Fauci reluctantly admitted that “yes,” someone who had been exposed to the coronavirus the way President Donald Trump was at Mar-a-Lago last week should “self-isolate and find a test.”

"One key difference between this and seasonal flu is one infected person infects 2-3 people vs flu it's 1:1." can you please further elaborate and/or clarify this? what are you trying to say?

If its 1:1 than its 100% communicable. If 1 person can effect 2-3 people than its not 100% communicable.

These are numbers that keep public health officials up at night - # of ventilators in the US and hospital beds

                      https://www.washingtonpost.com/healt...worried-about/

With so many Americans with no healthcare or unaffordable copays and deductibles care may be delayed, which can turn a serious case of pneumonia in a true emergency.

I believe it was on this board some deranged con said Trump fired the pandemic response team "because there was no pandemic." Kid you not. Maybe people will finally understand this is precisely why you have a pandemic response team? You know, sciency-stuff?

You are a sheep and easily influenced by media and social media. Swine flu was a much greater threat to die than this is and obama did nothing compared to what trump is doing now. It took obama 6 months to take it seriously but the media and your slave mind did not question. Pelosi and shumer did not ask for more funds. Obama treated it like a regular flu and 1800 kids died.
