These sports will be the very last to dropped, so they are in fact 'the safest'. Contrary to your opinion. You first need to understand the differences between a Head-Count vs Equivalency Sports All other Division I sports than those listed above, as well as all Division II sports, are “equivalency” sports. In equivalency sports, coaches can divide their scholarships up as they desire, as they long as they do not exceed the total allowable scholarship value available in their sport. A few examples in Division I are baseball with 11.7, softball with 12, and wrestling with 9.9 scholarships. One athlete on the team may be provided with the cost of tuition, a second athlete on the team may be provided with room and board, and a third athlete on the team may only be provided the value or use of books.

A special note: NCAA DI Baseball has a requirement that the athlete must receive at minimum a 25% scholarship. No other sport has a minimum requirement.

What is NCAA “Counter” Status? It's what allows sports like Women's Soccer to help balance the scales with regard to title ix requirements. Like magic any student-athlete who receives any amount of athletic scholarship is considered a “counter” per NCAA rules. Once a Division I student-athlete is a “counter” all other financial/academic aid received from their institution is required to “count” as if it is an athletic scholarship, unless the student-athlete qualifies for an exemption based on the level of their GPA, their class rank, or their ACT or SAT test score.

Being smart and interested in joining the women's soccer team helps offset the title ix disparities in funding due to men's football.

The more you know bout these title ix unintended consequences the better, especially before you waste thousands on useless travel for 'showcasing'. Grades matter more for the Oregon HS Girl.
Agree about the headcount sports being the safest, but women’s soccer is right up there. Men’s soccer is another story - it is a 2nd class sport on the men’s side here. Also agree that grades are more important than soccer. A good education is the long game for 99.99% of these girls.

Ted, don't be angry. Life it short. Step outside for a smoke and to get some fresh air. Whatever reason you are angry about title IX I am sure is not a big deal.

Someone else gets it!! This is all about Men's Football balancing act for title ix requirements.

Ask any Major College AD how much they care about Women's Soccer at their school, most can't even name their head coach forgot about an assistant coach or even a player on the squad. These Former football guys (AD's) have associate AD's that make sure all the obscure women's sports have massive rosters, little athletic aid and even less in coaches pay. It's all about allowing Men's football to thrive and keeping the TV monies flowing to the school. Like it or not this is an unintended consequence of title ix (echoing Teddy)

Title IX Ted is living in his Mother's basement and ranting about soccer scholarships for girls.

We just let him cry it out. He tuckers himself out eventually. Then someone changes him and gets him a warm bottle of milk before putting him down in his crib.

He's got quite a bad case of the tantrums.

It’s not the unintended consequence of title 9; it’s the intended result of title 9 that women have a similar support in athletics. Which sport isnt the issue. Title 9 is good for many reasons and it helps women in many sports play in college. Title 9 or no, men’s soccer isnt very popular here like the rest of the world. People sure love the USWNT though.

Title IX at the college level guided solely by the demands of American Football ...that's called an unintended consequence. Title IX never thought about the role of American Football and the fact it's a big business. Sorry, it's truly a joke when the young lady gets squat for athletics aid in the equivalency sports & then their academic aid is treated the same as athletic aid given to the 5th string full ride head count long snapper (Counter).

Sorry you don't get it, women's pro or college soccer isn't even close to approaching the popularity of US men's college or pro soccer through the medium of TV or actual attendance in the stadiums-it's not even a discussion.

World Cups & Olympics are one off happenings that have little to no impact, nor do any results in these events translate into domestic US professional soccer leagues popularity.

To wit the MLS thrives and grows without any World Cup or Olympic champions in their stable, the league now in it's 25th year, approaching 30 pro teams with worldwide tv contracts and financial stability.

Women's pro soccer in the states is a joke NO FAN BASE or TV INTEREST the WUSA folded-the NWSL is on life support with games streamed on twitch & player's meager salaries subsidized by US Soccer.

American's have no problem get excited about the top Curling teams every 4 years at the Olympics, you only have to watch it for a short time and it's over.

Same goes for Women's Soccer, once out of sight-- it's out of mind.

Top 3 oysa teams had more college commits than ecnl clubs. Vancouver and Westside has more per team than any of the ecnl teams and overall higher levels.

Oysa 2021 grad year teams have more Pac 12 commits than the ecnl clubs if you include gps who was in oysa.

You might be able to fool dumb parents but you can’t fool coaches and it’s clear they think ecnl is a joke on this state.
What was the count for OYSA kids going to Pac12. My kids ECNL team has 5 going PAC 12. That seemed pretty fair to me...

Our 2A HS had 5 Girls going PAC 12, that seemed pretty low.

He gets real red in the face when he is pounding away at the keyboard. Spittle on his lips. Bad smells emitting.
