And they also can’t control the narrative to fool the uneducated American soccer parent that wants their Sally to play in the special super duper new DA league!

Why does anyone care where anyone else has their kid play? Seriously if your kid is happy where they are and you are happy with her situation who gives a flying F*** what league her team is in? If your kid isn’t happy with her team move her - if she’s happy it doesn’t matter what league she plays in. I just don’t get why anyone cares what league other kids play inl

Funny only someone that cares about the league they play in would say this!! The new league is designed to surpass ECNL and will do so one day.

Umm, if they couldn't do that with the backing of USSF, how on earth do you think they will surpass ECNL? Top clubs are jumping ship as quickly as ECNL can get press releases together, just don't see how that will be the case. GDA faithful touted the same about GDA and that league didn't even survive 3 seasons.

2 events led to the shuttering of the DA and neither had to do with the quality of play, or ecnl.

              1. MLS was pulling their teams
              2. US Soccer has to settle with the uswnt

Not sure what that has to do with GDA since players & clubs were footing the bill. I assure you, if it was a rousing success, they would've kept it going. It wasn't, so they didn't.

It was not about the money when clubs left the USYS leagues. USYS made huge repeated blunders, and were unwilling to listen to feedback from clubs in order address issues. These top clubs came together to form the DA, and then ECNL for girls. USYS national and regional leagues have been run so poorly that the top clubs just won’t go back.

There are many reasons why you want to play in a league with good structure, and play in a league that meets the needs of your child. At the time DA and ECNL were formed it had nothing to do with status, because the clubs in the league already had the status of being the best clubs. It had everything to do with stability, standards, and maximizing resources.

Reading the comments on this board - it seems like the the ECNL people aren’t happy with a new league - I have to question why? As another poster said if your kid is happy on her team - be happy and don’t worry about another league - competition is a good thing as it forces everyone to bring their A game.

My kid is actually on an ECNL team and I am glad there will be another league with a national platform as it gives us all options and forces clubs to be competitive or they will lose members.

Because insecure people like to find ways to point out that their kid is better than yours, because they play in the BEST league! They cant accept the existence of anything that threatens that narrative. For as much as they will say there was a "dilution of talent" the reality is that they dont care about the game at all. They care about being #1 more than the health of the sport and its participation. They are bitter that for a year or two, USSF pushed DA and they were told ECNL was #2, even though by early 2019 it was obviously still the better league for college pathway.

There is so much wrong with the sport in this country it is insane. ECNL and DA/GA both, equally, represent everything bad about youth sports. They somehow saw AAU basketball, with its sneaker company tournament circuits, private teams and huslters and said "that's pretty bad, lets do even worse."

US Soccer covered all expenses excluding club specific fees.

                        - no league fees
                        - no ref fees
                        - no registration fees
                        - no fees for national events

They also paid the scouting network and regional directors

US Soccer spent $10M a year on the DA.

As for MLS.. it is pretty simple for boys 99% of the best players are at MLS acadamies without them what's the point. No boys DA meant no girls DA. ECNL had nothing to do with the GDA closing up shop.

Totally agree - everyone just needs to worry about their kid and if they are happy and developing- and stop worrying about other leagues and kids and how people spend their money. Many reasons people choose certain teams and the league isn’t always tops - the geographical proximity is sometimes the biggest factor.

I agree with you but you see the powers that be (especially college coaches that coach at youth soccer academies) try to force you to play in a certain league, for a certain club etc. it’s like blackmail at its best to serve two fold business purposes....attract recruits to their college teams and attract revenues to their club teams. Do you see the challenge???

But that isn't why the ECNL formed. Poorly run USYS regional and national leagues were the cause, and the cost of playing ECNL became lower than playing state cup, regional league and national league, on top of having to do additional college showcase events. This was a way to lower costs, and raise the standards, for clubs that were already spending lots of money! I am not a defender of ECNL, but the league was started for good reasons. Hey, if your child played at a club that wasn't playing at a national level before ECNL, then you don't understand the costs involved for clubs/teams that were.

I don't agree with the structure of any of these leagues at the younger age groups. It is crazy that U12-14 teams are traveling 5 hours for league games. This needs to change if you want to grow the sport again.

I think local level leagues are important, and there is no doubt a need for EPYSA/USYS and EDP. But there isn't a need for those leagues to try and be something they are not, and something that is not needed.
