More regional events would give ECNL an advantage because they make sense
Makes sense to whom? Unless you have done both you have no basis to judge. Multiple regional events makes coaches choose which does not benefit the players. All the showcases require travel and hotel unless you happen to live where they are being held. The one commonality is most coaches stay for two days and leave on the third unless they too are local and/or need to see someone specific.

If a northeast coach or assistant coach chooses not to go to the northeast showcase or the south east coach does not go to the southeast showcase, that is their choice. But that is where most of their players will come from.

The GDA summer or championships when qualify are in Cali. ECNL teams have three showcases in most ages except for the U19/U18 are only required to do one showcase. The Orlando Sanford ECNL showcase should always be first option for the U19/U18 ECNL teams because most of the girls are recruited by then and it is a closer venue for them to get in competitive games. Also when senior teams are missing players for any reason, it is easier to get composite ECNL team players to sub in late notice without the plane ticket expense.

I'm sure that made sense in your head when you wrote it.

Sounds like a fesa parent with Phoenix experience.

Lol. See what u mean. Trying to say that far flung showcases burden and therefore will exclude many players that may be interested in a certain school. Showcases held closer to the location of the school would be more accessible to interested players and so would also serve the school's coach and soccer program.

ECNL might dictate that certain east clubs must travel out west and vice versa to get a good mix of teams at the showcases. Players and parents on the teams have no say, but how much control do clubs and coaches have in what showcases are attended?

Although it's a lot more challenging to be seen, many ENCL families are looking at West Coast schools and are appreciative of the opportunity to play at a West Coast ECNL event for exposure. Not every kid is interested in staying within a 200-mile radius of home.

Players and parents have a say if they stick together and make their demands known in a mature calm fashion. Try it. It works.

That would describe a small minority in my experience. Most east coast families strongly prefer east coast events.

Going to an ID Camp without having first been seen in a game is an even bigger waste of time. The showcases offer that opportunity, followed by ID Camps. And by the way, there are plenty of East Coast coaches at West Coast ECNL events as well, since so many players are recruited out of CA, WA, NV, etc.

Makes sense for coaches to go wherever they can successfully find players. These leagues can force the teams to go across the country as well and they do but it does negatively impact their appeal to players.

Limits their appeal to the player's families that pay is more accurate. My player would love to skip school and head off to to Florida and California to play soccer - alas too bad for her.

Statics show that 75% of students will attend a school within a 5 hour drive from home. From D.C. up to Boston and West into PA there are dozens and dozens of excellent schools that families would be thrilled to have their kids attend. Sure some will be looking further but it really is the minority. There should be two regional events (driveable) and two national events, and teams can decide to skip one national event if they want. Also, that should only be for the prime recruiting years. Having 8th graders schlepp across the country is absurd.
