If you want to see why the US WNT should be concerned...

Watch the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, Finals today:

Spain vs. Mexico @ 5 PM.

Spain in particular plays a beautiful style and they have rolled through everyone.

Don’t you know US soccer thinks all the best players in the country reside in California.

Probably 2-3 future FSU players will play in this game today.

So true at all levels. It’s no wonder they cannot compete with the country’s now. US soccer want big, strong and fast girls who have no technical ability. A complete 360 from what teams like Spain, Mexico, France and Japan look for which is all about technical players. US soccer need to get out of the Stone Age. They are being left behind at the youth levels.

Agreed. Watch Spain today. The average height/weight of the Spanish squad is significantly lower than U.S. U17 team but the skill level is off the chart! U.S. didn't even make it to the Final Four.

And those Cali girls can speak Spanish, just like the Mexican and Spanish girls. US is all good.

In the last 7 World Cups the US has made it to 4 times, winning 3. The US will start worrying about Spain when they even sniff a World Cup final. The U17 JV winning does not scare the US Varsity.

This is an absolutely terrible mind set. I hope the higher ups in USSF don’t have this ridiculous plan.

Let’s go with what has worked in the past, even though our competition is upgrading and evolving from the ground up.

By the time their full teams eclipse us and bump us down to second tier. It will take us a decade or more to rebuild a broken youth system.

                          To use your analogy:
The varsity team is great....but the rival schools JV team, and the rival schools middle school varsity and JV teams are kicking our a55. Once our Varsity players graduate, how long till we are beating our rivals again?

US women play a physical game and it works. As long as it works and legal, you don't have to be a snob of beautiful soccer when you just get bullied off the ball. Don't knock it.

I guess that works with 25 year old women from around the world. The U-17 YNT got schooled by other countries that are better at soccer. Read the Anson Dorrance interview. He basically said the U.S. will continue to turn out better athletes and some other countries are starting to turn out better soccer players. Makes you wonder how long the physical game will prevail.
