If we can assume your kid is very athletic, you better take a few steps to make sure he doesn't become a typical product of Oregon soccer. One, make sure he's with a coach who's forcing him to learn how to play rather than just learn how to run by people. Two, if it's not so much that he's a great athlete but just an early maturer, you better make sure he's playing up. And three, if it's just that your personal taste are sports that reward pure athleticism, find out if your son shares those taste and move him into a sport that better suits him.
I actually don't have a rooting interest here, except to say that I'm exhausted having to watch so many terrible games with the same mouth-breathing parents cheering for balls lobbed in behind while some not very good speedster bangs in a goal once out of every 50th chance.
