Help OYSA Win a Grant for
    Equipment & Player Scholarships
    August 6, 2009

Oregon Youth Soccer was recently accepted into the NIKE Back Your Block program. Nike is investing up to $650,000 in grants across the nation to unlock the potential of young people through the power of sports and we need you!

We applied for an equipment grant to supply players in need with the necessities to play on a soccer team. This equipment would be distributed to players across the state. We also applied for funds to support our ODP Scholarship Fund.

In order to win this grant WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

Each Applicant for the program collects votes online. Supporters can vote once a day per e-mail address.

How does your organization make a difference in your community?
Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) has over 41,000 members across the state. These are soccer players that range from age 5 to 19 and could be recreational players, competitive players, and/or players with disabilities. We administer the Olympic Development Program which seeks out the best of the best in Oregon. This program gives the players an opportunity to compete at regional and national levels as well as exposes them to college recruiters. OYSA runs the TOPSoccer program for the state which serves kids with mental and/or physical challenges. We also have almost 6,000 adult members who are coaches that help these players learn teamwork, leadership, discipline, self-esteem, perseverance and sportsmanship. Oregon Youth Soccer runs background checks and provides essential coaching clinics for first time coaches to nationally accredited coaches to enhance the development of players at all levels.

How will Nike impact your community by investing in it?
Like all organized activities, soccer costs money to participate in. The recreational player might have a nominal entry fee, but then they must purchase equipment to participate in a game. Upper level players face up to $5,000 in fees to play for thier club and to travel to tournaments. Nike could help us provide scholarships and equipment for these players.
