from my observations the best coaches are at least 40, grew up with the game and can play themselves. young 20 year olds totally out of depth and should not be given big teams.

Not agree. I'm over 40, been playing the game and been involved with it on some level for over 30 years, and it's a different game. I'd prefer someone closer to how the game is played today and can communicate it then a dinosaur like myself.
Plus, in some instances, depending on age, some kids can communicate better with someone closer in age vs. someone who could be their grandfather, or close to it.
I don't see how you could make an assertion one way or the other.

The game has totally changed over the course of the last two decades. Doesn't mean they can't adapt (which is why I said you couldn't make the assertion one way or the other).
You could end up with someone like Wegner, unwilling to adapt to the way the game has changed and suffering for it every year.

In fact experience should lead you to adapt better than the younger one's that have not seen as much. If you are a dinosaur is because you choose to remain one.

Some older coaches are stuck in their ways and don't understand the game today, you to relate to kids today, and are beyond being able to show something.
Some younger coaches lack the maturity and responsibility that comes with training our youth.
I can't see where either one is 100% one way or the other....

Prevent them from scoring goals while you try to score as many as you can. Been the same way forever.

Those changes bother Phil, but not Brad who has not known differently. They have hurt the game, that's for sure.

What I told my son who is a young coach is, your challenge won't be coaching the players, it will be coaching the parents.
