US Youth Soccer a common thread among 2016 Under-15 USWNT camp

    http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/us_yout...15_uswnt_camp/

FRISCO, Texas (April 18, 2016) – Of the 24 players called into the U.S. Under-15 Girls National Team camp, 20 have US Youth Soccer ties, including three players — Vanessa Buso, Mia Fishel and Madison Mercado — who have won the coveted US Youth Soccer National Championship.

The camp is being held April 16-24 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., as the players will ultimately look to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

A closer look at the players and their common thread of US Youth Soccer…

Buso, who won the 2015 US Youth Soccer National Championships with Legends FC 99 (CA-S), has also won a US Youth Soccer Region IV Championship and has played in two seasons of the US Youth Soccer National League with Legends FC. Fishel and Mercado won the 2014 Region IV and National Championship with Surf Academy (CA-S). Both players tied for the most goals in their age group at the 2014 Region IV Championships with four goals. Sixteen other camp attendees have played in the US Youth Soccer National Championships Series (NCS), while other players with experience at the National Championships include 2015 National Championships finalist and 2015 Best XI player Samantha Meza of Dallas Kicks SC 01 (N-TX) and a pair of Tophat SC (GA) players in 2014 and 2015 semifinalist Natalia Stuade and 2014 semifinalist Eleanor Glenn.

Seventeen of the players attending camp have played in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP). Marzia Josephson reached the finals of the 2016 US Youth Soccer ODP Championships with North Carolina 00, while both Mercado and Savianna Gomez have won three US Youth Soccer ODP Region IV Championships with California South 01. Staude, Leah Scarpelli and Kalyssa Van Zanten attended the 2015 US Youth Soccer ODP National Training Camp.

Seven players have represented their clubs at the US Youth Soccer National League. Staude and Meza both claimed National League titles in the 2014-15 season, while Buso and Gomez also have both NCS and National League Experience. Harper White of Tennessee SC (TN), Talia Dellaperuta of United FC (GA) and BRYC’s (VA) Gabrielle Robinson have also played in the National League.

...and in other news the sky is blue and water is wet.

Where the heck do you think youth national team players come from? Little soccer elves that magically drop them onto fields with magical paperwork all in order?

The Devil is in the details. Can't do ODP without an USYSA pass card so either those kids are paying for the pass card themselves, their club is paying for it for them (imagine an ECNL club supporting ODP-we are told that doesn't happen), or they are on a team in that ECNL club that is playing in a USYSA league. Has to be one of the three.

No, what it means is that ODP is not as dead as the pundits around here would like everyone to believe.

Funny how certain clubs around here tell their families that and then other clubs around here end up with players making the regional pool and playing in the inter regional event. I guess it's only dead when your kid can't make it.

Thanks again, BTNT. Another day of assaulting others.

Ah the sage advice from a guy with a famous last name. Please expound oh wise one.

Please tell us how competitive Mass ODP is. Please tell us that it represents the best in Massachusetts and New England. Please explain how the tryouts are so poorly attended that there are virtually no cuts. Do tell.

This is a dumb article. All little kids play in usysa leagues and most do little kid ODP. At U14 in mass that pretty much changes as teams and kids move into ECNL or NPL. Those who are successful and see it as another avenue for ID stick with it. There have been a few Mass girls recently that have been very successful with it and for one who plays in Mass, it was clearly the way into the national pool.

It might not represent the absolute best in Massachusetts and New England but those roster spots in the regional pool and for the inter regional event have to go to someone. It just so happens that the ones that do do ODP all tend to be amongst the better players in the New England region. The nut jobs have been saying that ODP is dead for years yet year in and year out you see kids from Mass and the other NE states making a splash in the program. In fact several girls from this header picture on the Region 1 Facebook page are local kids. https://www.facebook.com/region1girls who are all going to fairly high level D1 programs.

The ones that start in ODP and get selected for the regional pool at 12/13 almost always end up playing in college. Most (but granted not all) at high end D1 programs. In the past players usually tailed off their participation after the U15 year because most of the available "resume" points have earned by that point. Recently though Region 1 has started taking more teams on international trips which is keeping more players involved longer trying to qualify for them.

Why are you incapable of posting without referring to others as "nutjobs"?

Suggest you might go read a few of the past threads discussing ODP and then come back and ask the question.
