NEP State Cup & NEP Premier Cup

So it looks in addition to the USCS State Cups which lead to the USCS National Cup with mostly NPL teams, they have now added the NEP Premier Cup for the next level down which takes top NEP Premiership teams and does a crossover final 4 with top NSL teams which leads to USYS Regionals in PA.

    https://www.nepstatecups.com/nep-pre...state-cup.html

So clearly MYSA realizes that now both NEP and NSL are US Club Soccer leagues, that it needed to partner up with them, in order to provide a USYS state champion that was at least not a town travel team. It still will the weaker of the two state cups (hence the new name of “Premier Cup”), but still better than just Maple/NSL representing. At least we’ll get an answer which league (NEP or NSL) has the best of the best 3rd & 4th tier teams in the state.

No you won’t just because a team wins from a league doesn’t make the league the best. You have weak teams in strong leagues and strong teams in weak leagues. MAPLE to Region 1 was the best system.

Youth soccer is highly fragmented, this isn't new and it is never going to change for the better.

The pursuit of bragging rights itself is dubious, the bragging is even worse.

Well we already had two “state champs” the last few years anyway. You had the USCS MA State Champs (NEP MA CUP) which was, and still is the stronger of the two, and then there was the older USYS MA State Champs, which has only been MAPLE teams the last few years. The only difference now is that they are taking the old USYS MA State Championship, rebranding it as NEP Premier Cup, and now including the top NEP Premiership teams in a crossover final four. Winner goes to Region 1 Championship.

Of course neither of these state cops include all the top teams in the state, because at U14 and above, there are no DA and/or ECNL teams participating, As they skip it to focus solely on their own league playoffs.

Where are the brackets for the Super Group? How is it that NPL teams can enter the Premier Group?

Probably because they very weak NPL teams and know they belong in NEP Premiership anyway (ie Aztec)

"The Super Group" NPL brackets are not out yet. According to our coach, they are still working on them and then they will be scheduled between coaches at that point.

Yes, but this is not new. Once US Club Soccer came along with the NEP/NPL/ECNL, they developed their own State Cup series which in New England is known as the NEP Cup Series, with state cup winners all advancing to the National Cup. This is the same this year and is now deemed the “Super Group”

Prior to US Club coming along, US Youth Soccer ran the State Cups with winners advancing to Region 1 Championships, and then on to the USYS National Championships. The problem was USCS had all the best teams, and all USYS had left were weaker MAPLE/NSL teams involved. Now that MAPLE/NSL is now also US Club Soccer, that has literally left only town travel teams under MYSA and USYS. They had to adjust something to provide some sort of USYS State Cup winner. They solution was partner with NEP and rebrand to make the old USYS State Cup the “second tier” State Cup (Under the existing “super group”). This new rebranded “Premier Cup” will pit the winner of the NEP Premiership bracket with the winner of the MAPLE/NSL bracket. The winner of the State Premier Cup will advance to Region 1 Championship as they did become partnership and rebranding.

Simple way to know if you are in “Super Group” or “Premier Group”??? Super Group is mostly NPL teams, and Premier Group is NEP Premiership or MAPLE/NSL teams. DA and most ECNL do not participate as they focus on their league playoffs instead.
