DA is US Soccer's fully compressive national program for the top youth in the country. ECNL is a league that local clubs enroll teams in for games. There is a huge difference here.
If you are saying the DA is for the top youth soccer players in the country then why are all the local girls who are getting invited to USWNT camps and playing in international USWNT events coming from local ECNL teams and not Thorns?

Weil, going forward in the inaugural year of the US Soccer DA for girls in 2017-18 those clubs in the DA players will be the first choice selection of US Soccer for nat camps etc.

Now, US Soccer has has a platform for training and development, if you want to be identified and developed for US Nat team camp selection your club needs to be part of the DA or you can tryout for a DA program in your area.

Thorns = pro path with cashier side job at gas station.

        Other paths = college.

College is NOT the be all end all.

Some players don't have the grades for college. Soccer and a job can be an option.

Gaff and Chris T are two of the most sought after coaches in Portland metro.

Nothing wrong with going the pro path and getting a couple side jobs. Retail is low stress compared to corporate jobs.

Because Thornz Asylum is glorified rec.

Not even US Soccer is so stupid to select rec GDA players over highly skilled ECNL players - except in the Timbers lemming/caveman world.

True, you probably don't need a college degree to hold up a cardboard sign at the stoplight.

This is why some families will pay for ECNL. It's a great league for girls to get into who don't have the GPA or SAT scores to really get attention academically so they try and run at colleges through soccer. Hopefully they are multi-sport or they will end up at PSU getting $1500/year scholarships.. which they also could have received just playing in OYSA.

And for far less money, too.

Keep that beef jerky stocked up. Hungry drivers need their jerky to perform at their best.

have thorns gotten any pro players or college signings in the three years?

The families paying for Ecnl can afford to pay for college. Most of the ecnl parents are well educated, well-employed and wealthy. Education is #1 for most of the Ecnl families. Luckily, Thorns Academy will provide an alternate elite pathway for the players that can't afford Ecnl. The more options the better.
