What is the PDA tryout process? Do they have players come in and practice with existing team or do they hold open tryouts? And do they evaluate/tryout throughout the year or lock the rosters down in the spring for the following year? Their website doesn’t give too much info.

He’ll get them a full ride to college
Why develop when you can recruit
Beware there is an “ optional”
Extra training every week
That you is at an extra cost
That’s mandatory if you want to
Actually want to watch your daughter play

Since there is discussion of "recruit" vs "develop" in here, I would say that the "base PDA" package is not good enough compared to smaller clubs.
Yes, the "season fee" is $3k but it includes:
- 2 practices a week in spring and early fall
- attendance at ECNL showcases
- fairly strong college help
- handful of game videos
It does not include (prices are approximate):
- uniforms [$400]
- coach's travel fees [$400]
- use-of-gym in winter [$120]
- extra practice in winter [$400]
- extra practices in spring [$400]
- camp [$300]
- team brochures [$100]
- PDA branded notebook [$50]
This is in line with a "GDA full package" $5k fee being quoted by clubs such as Spirit.
The kids that don't attend extra practices fall off the bandwagon in terms of play readiness and and up being dissatisfied, they frequently leave. There were rumors of kids being benched for practicing with non-PDA coaches - it is hard to validate.

Coaches cherry pick kids between multiple teams during the tryout, and the player change on an older age group team between seasons is 3-5 kids a year. More in younger age groups where parents care about development value.

As for the rumors, again just that — but sat next to a family during a winter 3v3 tourney and listened to a kid/family talk about just that. They had some extra practices elsewhere and the dad formed a little tournament team on the side with friends for local non-competing gigs over the off season. Kid was benched and situation got ugly. Family ultimately left.

Boys PDA 2003 wins ENPL National Championship
US Club Soccer (tweeted/Facebook) about the win. They interviewed a PDA 03 player about what it means to win the national championship. They posted the players name in the interview. Now go to the DA site and find PDA u16/u17 Boys team and you find this player they interviewed on the rooster and see he played in all 24 DA games this year and started 22 of them. Since this is an 02/03 team, he must be pretty good.
So what is this player doing on their ECNL rooster for the post season?
Are there more DA players on that team?
Is it just a DA team playing in the ECNL?
Are there really two separate teams?
We all know the big clubs bring in “ringers” to try and win, but why?
DA has a post season
ECNL has a post season
The big clubs that are in both just shuffling players around trying to win something?

PDA does all of their girls a disservice by not playing in the DA. I guess only offering 2x a week training + charging for a third is a better business model then offering 3-4 sessions per week. And dont tell me its what the families wanted... throw a DA patch back on that uniform and watch the kids still show up in droves.

ECNL vs GDA
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostWhy would they do that? They are the main power force in ECNL in the NE. They are a club with immense influence in the governance of that league. The coaches don't want to do it
The players do want to do it
Who is the club for? The players or the coaches?

If the players think the league is that important, why not play for a gda club? Leagues seem virtually indistinguishable overall. But with Gda stronger in some regions and ecnl stronger in Northeast region.

PDA do not do more for players than anyone else. What they have done is grow the brand better than most. They have a large "home" area and they recruit aggressively. Its an easy sell for insecure parents who think Jane will fall behind if she is not playing fro them. Its not true, but its a good story.
The only thing PDA offers with more consistency than any other Club in the Region is the chance to compete for Club titles. If that is important to a family then they will play there
They are not taking players set for bench roles in College and turning them into starters. They are not getting kids destined for Villanova into Duke. They are getting kids into the schools that everyone else is.

The home area is the entire NJ and parts of Penn and NY, and they do recruit "stars" but not "superstars".
