Disappointed in Weston Girls Program/Out of shape players

Unfit girls and too many players on the roster.

New to this, but what is the max amount of players that a club should have on an 11v11 squad? There are 19 players on my daughter's Weston team, one goalie included in that 19. You can only dress 18 players for a league or tournament game. We have already been told that for each game their will be one player that will not dress. They said that player will make the game up with another Weston team when available. What have 19 on the roster to begin with???

All players are playing 50% or less of the games. Parents are not happy with the constant subbing in and out. It seems as if they are trying to satisfy everyone with minutes but at the same time sacrificing having your better players on the field, pulling them when they are playing well. Girls that are out of shape and undeserving are put in who simply don't have the stamina and pace for full field, 11v11. After playing seven games and multiple practices you should already know who your better players are and who is deserving.

There are multiple girls on the team who are not in shape/fit enough for the competitive program that Weston makes itself out to be. The coach has two teams, an Elite (Pre-DA) team and a Premier (second team). The standards are high for the DA and Pre-DA squads but it surely seems the Premier teams are an afterthought.

At this point, you have to deal with it. They needed the money so they rostered 19. You are not going to get anything out of playing 50 percent of the game. That is a rec mentality. I do have a suggestion, if you are unhappy, pull your kid and the team will have 18 and everybody plays each week. Find a team more to your liking. You should have asked in the beginning how many players would they carry.

It is a money grab, usually teams are split between kids whose parents are friends with "someone", kids whose parents are donors to the club, and then kids who have actual talent. 19 isn't that high, as the season progresses players will get hurt and before you know it you could have a 15 player roster. Suddenly your kid goes from playing 25% of the game to 75%.

Nothing Premier about a B Team

What is the age bracket? The older the players, the more you may need on the roster, particularly U17, U18 and U19 in the spring.

The older teenagers cease being as committed, have part-time jobs, boyfriend/girlfriend, more rigorous academics as they look towards getting accepted to college, etc. 19 on a roster came seem like a lot in September and then good luck fielding a team with a couple of subs as the year wears on.

Even at the lower 11 v 11 age brackets, any given weekend you could have a kid injured, sick, out of town at a family wedding, etc. 19 actually doesn't sound like a lot when 18 are allowed to dress out. You'd be surprised how thin a bench can be on occasion, even with that many on the squad.

This thread is not about the girls Da program.

              Please, try and stay up.

You should at least read the thread and posts before you make your snide comment. This thread isn’t even about the team that you are so excited to bash. Lol.

19 isn't bad at all. You can almost guarantee at least one player will be out with injury, if not more, then add in a few players missing for SAT tests, proms etc. At this level, fitness is up to the kids, not the coach. He's there to improve their soccer skills.

God gawd no one is ever happy! Let kids sit all the time someone is complaining. Try and give decent PT to all and someone is complaining. Play to win? Ditto. Play to develop? Ditto. I'd rather see 50% for all and play to develop vs only play to win with some kids sitting every game. If you're developing your players you'll at least win some and be competitive. Parents need to stop chasing the wins.

It's a long season and the kids will get there with fitness.

Kids on the bench need game time too. The best players shouldn't get to play all the game as our kids on the bench need time to get coaches to look at them and to have highlight film too. If they lose a game because a lesser play is in the game, who cares? It's all about getting looks and offers for as many players as possible, that means the back half of the bench as well.

Take your 50% playing time and pipe down Felicia. It's not all about your kid or winning.

Usually it's the ahold parents who complain the weaker players are getting too much PT and that's why the team loses. They think their kids' sh*t doesn't stink. "My kid is a stud and should play the whole game".

If a club or coach can't be bothered giving everyone good PT then they're just cashing the checks of the bench warmers. It shows you where their priorities are - and btw your kid could become one of those benchwarmers as the season progresses, so buyer beware.

Having only 19 players could become an issue for teams U16 and older. Anyone that has been involved with girls soccer knows that you can expect two girls a year to go down with serious injuries, and most girls teams deal with ACL injuries and concussions. You can also expect one or two just stop playing because they don't care to play soccer anymore. If you start the season with 19, expect you will have 16 players at the end of the season, if you don't add during the year. 16 fit players if you rotate the players and make sure they aren't playing on injuries. This info is based off of many years of experience in girls soccer. It is hard for me to believe that there is a major fitness problem with a youth team. If there is a fitness problem you can't blame the club at this point. Sure, a strength and speed program is needed, but the players also need to work on their own. These kids are training 3-4 times a week, so fitness really should not be an issue for most players.

Math is not your strong point is it. 19 players minus a goalie = 18 field players. 10 field players at all time on field thus 800 playable minutes assuming 40 minute halves. That is an average of 45 minutes per player per game. That is more than half the game. Thus there is no way possible all players are averaging less than half the game.

The older they get the more injuries/distractions/jobs will distract. When the kids were younger i would have not liked an 18 person roster but, now that we are playing u17 if you don't have 17-18 you don't have enough.

I see that math is not your friend. Let's assume that the goalie plays the entire game. Let's also assume that there are 40-minute halves as you don't state the age. There are 800 field minutes available to divide up amongst 17 players (Goalie obviously does not account for one of those players). That averages about 47 minutes a game which is more than half of the game.

In my opinion 19 is a lot but, assuming that your team is high school age there will inevitably be injuries
