International players would cost a university's athletic program. A big portion of the recruiting budget would go to flying over to another country to watch the international players and show them interest. Then it could take a full athletic scholarship to recruit another country's national team player to come study at FSU. Then if there is a language barrier, more money has to be spent on academic tutoring.

That isn't stopping coaches so far. In fact, it keeps growing. A coach only has a total # of scholarships to give out. It doesn't cost him more to give good money to international players, he just has less to give others. But it's a coach's choice how to divide his budget. He's going to pick the players he thinks will help him win, with or without a US passport.

It should be a college program including the athletic director and provost who determine the vision of the program and a quota of internationals.

FSU does it then jump on the international player bandwagon and beat FSU.

FSU should not start up a men's soccer team because it would have to spend much to recruit the top foreign student players.

24 on the FSU roster and 1/4 are international
FSU needs to find 4 American players each year to complete its quota of American players.

Some programs need a few and some need ten internationals to win. Where do they draw the line?

No one plays American football outside the US. More international players are being picked up in college hoops, but it's nothing compared to soccer. Hockey is even more international - I think close to half.

Also think of all the international students taking academic spots in the Florida State Universities , over 40,000 at the last count .
