    Arlington to ECNL

Apparently another quality GA club in Arlington is jumping ship, posted on other States boards. Tophat and FCV in the works as well. Only matter of time before the GA cookie crumbles. Why are these clubs leaving if it’s such a great league?

Excellent club so a significant loss for GA. Something must be up with all these clubs bailing....

We saw the same club movement from the DA to ECNL

Why did they bail on GA after publicizing for months that it was the best national platform for girls, the best pathway etc. Do these academies just bull**** families left and right or has GAL gone down hill that fast after DA days?

Of course they bullsh*t families. They have to sell _____ fill in the blank platform as the greatest thing ever. Until it's not.

Besides, they like many other clubs have no doubt lost a good number of players to ECNL. The writing is on the wall and it's about survival at this point

On paper it is a good platform. In reality there's only a few quality clubs left (for how long?) and many of the rest are very mediocre. It's very hard to justify the extensive travel and cost for such weak competition when there's plenty of similar level closer by.

Covid hasn't helped either. Families want to know they're getting them most bang for the their soccer $. GAL isn't delivering and is on shaky ground. They're not going to stay around and see what happens. They might have stood a chance without Covid.

They can survive as a quality B league but not with the current travel and cost.

Probably more of a quality C league as many EDP Div1 and ECRL teams would destroy GAL teams on a regular basis. Trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes will work for you so long. They better get their act together as families that do their research will find plenty of good local options.

Like all else different areas have strengths and weaknesses. I don't think EDP is much of a thing (or even exists?) in other areas. But yes if you're on par with EDP or NPL from a quality standpoint, how do you justify the huge travel commitment and cost?

Div 1 EDP would give some GA and ECNL teams a run. NO ECRL teams in NE would compete in EDP D1 and would have a tough time vs the lower teams in GA.

What makes Arlington a better club then SJEB? The commit list is weak and it seems like they get more attention for the boys side then girls. Sure they have the girl from Norway YST but over all they isn't much difference. Could SJEB be getting ECNL as well?

Very true, but hopefully not a trend. They screwed people over with the DA collapse out of nowhere and promised a better league in GA. How can clubs look themselves in the mirror and pitch something “as the best” and then pull the plug just like that. Shows you what they really think of GAL.

I think some are simply in survival mode and are searching for a life preserver. Some are shut out of ECNL because of location or politics, some just aren't good enough to ever get in and are looking for a solid league to play in. Covid definitely didn't help - people are looking for stability and GDA/GAL hasn't exhibited that

While I agree GAL is on shaky ground it is a good 2nd or 3rd options as a league/platform so nothing wrong with that. More than likely ECNL will continue to chip away, and if so you’ll continue to see a drop off in quality, so expectations would need to be adjusted.
