At the very least both girls should be suspended for the rest of the season. I disagree with the ludlowe coach when he says that it's the heat of the moment and it happens. Tough physical play and passion are very different than throwing punches.

However, there is no excuse for the 3rd player involved and they should get the biggest punishment. Typically this is the kid that comes in and blindsides the opponent's first player in.

The punches were the escalation not the third person in
Player 1 and 2 get the harshest penalty. Unless it can be proven that one clearly starred the punching. The third player gets a lighter punishment (but still substantial) for joining the fray

CIAC has rules (game suspension likely ) but the schools or even coaches could also impose ther own punishments in addition to that (also unlikely to be significant going into playoffs )

The CIAC has it's rules about suspensions from red cards and that is all they will enforce here.
The FCIAC may have its own rules that apply beyond the CIAC rules. Unlikely, but possible. Conferences tend to align with the CIAC on these kinds of rules interpretations.
If the athletic departments and soccer programs have any rules that mean anything, they should enforce the most appropriate and stringent response. This is a reflection on their soccer programs and athletic programs and they should send the appropriate message to their communities here. There would be some kids and parents here that would be done for the season if this happened in our high school soccer programs, regardless of the impact on the post-season.
There are lessons to be learned here far more important than high school soccer.

Make it like the NHL did .... if a third player enters the fracas for any reason (even to try to break it up) he gets the stiffest penalty ..... that rule has nearly eliminated bench clearing brawls over night. Once the third player enters a fight 4th, 5th, and 6th ..... players need to jump in to help. There is no excuse. The third player should be penalized the most. Again, the third player unbalances a fair fight and they often blindside or hold the 2nd player who gets the brunt of the damage.
