It is a team sport ....I see so many times players taking poor shots when they had an open team mate....to many trying for glory and stats....
You hit the nail on the head...but that requires coaching to adjust and correct and not putting up with nonsense.

HS soccer is all about selfishness. Kicking the ball 50 yards and then hearing parents yell “great kick”, as the ball rolls to a waiting goalie with no forwards around. Pathetic...And then hearing same parents complain no one was there to receive the 50 yard “pass”. Pathetic.

        High School soccer summarized:

Coach putting in and keeping in legacy players who have no reason to be out there. Only reason is they are upperclassmen. And they only pass to themselves and never to the younger players. Game falls apart when younger, better players come in (sometimes they come in) and get iced out by the upperclassmen. Coach clueless. Team loses and coach gets in car and drives away. $$$$ for the hired coach! Team left with selfish crap and the loss.

Why would that make any difference if my kid made varsity or not? This is not high school soccer? Ugly kickball. Awful coaching. Club coaches getting additional payday.

Have you watch most college soccer? It looks like high school 2.0 Maybe not all but certainly most of it....bottom line, if you’re not successful in HS soccer you are likely not going to cut it in college as the physicality and style of play is vastly similar. On the other hand the pretty possession style soccer without any physicality played by the academies is rarely replicated in collegiate soccer.

Zero chance winter HS sports happen!

                No chance this happens!
