    NWSL Flailing and Failing

Another franchise closes the doors. That's two in less than a year. Game attendance is pitiful. TV audience is non-existent. Players barely get paid. Most facilities are sub-HS level. Definitely circling the drain.

Who left? I am only aware of Salt Lake being added.

And of course, the country-club set will cheer the demise of the NWSL, or any other domestic women's pro league that might form, because its existence challenge their desire to keep girls'/women's soccer an upper-class endeavor. (And anything that might damage the GDA is likewise to be welcomed).

Amateurism, of course, has a long and sordid history in the Anglo-American sporting tradition, of keeping the riffraff far away from the preferred hobbies of the gentlemen and the ladies.

NWSL is kind of dull. They need better camera work and play by play talent. Better uniforms would help. And stop playing games on junky fields.

That is horse **** - NWSL is filled with the daughters of country-club set. Hell, unless they are married to an NFL player that is the only way they can afford to play in the league.

Yep. KC wins 2 championships and they still can't draw flies to games. Fact is, women's soccer is slow and boring. Even my DD, who plays soccer, won't watch NWSL games.

Relative to football, basketball, and hockey... MLS soccer is not all that popular either

I like the college women's game. It should end there. Loved watching Marta but all the rest are boring. We want to see people do things we can't.

Studies have now shown that girls soccer has even more concussions than football. Once parents realize the dangers, they'll start pulling their girls from soccer like they're pulling their boys from football. The popularity of women's soccer will fall even more.

Sounds like Seattle and Boston are on the ropes too. Probably why Laura Harvey had to leave the Reign - they can't afford to pay her.

Soccer is a distant third in popularity in this country - and that's for men's teams. The WNBA struggles for support, and that's basketball (much more popular and interesting to watch) and has the support of the NBA. Franchises need a consistent fan base to make it and a women's soccer team is unlikely to garner that, at least not any time soon. My two daughters prefer to watch men's matches, and more often international ones, not MLS. They only watch the USWNT in Olympics and WC play. If they can't capture soccer fans like my daughters they'll never get a broad enough fan base.

                              3rd?

NFL, NBA, MLB Top 3 by a mile.

                              NHL probably next.

Then Soccer, LAX, Rock Climbing, X Games.....
