It's not even a formalized initiative really so many clubs use it to play better players on the younger teams and get a few extra wins. Keeps parents happy too - they think their kid is the bomb

No he’s not, if he’s born in 2003, then u16 is age appropriate.

They are staying within the lines of USSF policy. I have had Lots of issues with BS but this isn’t one of them

If you are so upset talk to USSF. Better yet talk to Mickey and up your donation

There are players on 2004s that are in same boat. Small players playing same position now they have to sit and loose playing time. There development not important. Why not move them down.
Oh yea, they don't give the big bucks.
Everybody in club knows whats going on.

Please cry me a river. In college or in some cases high school you are competing with kids of all ages. The best player plays, period. It doesn’t matter the age.

It’s happening with 2004/2005 as well at BS. A 2004 on the 2005 game report.

Looks like each team in that game had 2 2004 players according to the game report.

It’s a silly practice, either play your age or play up, not down. Too bad if you’re smaller, that’s life in sports. You don’t have to be big to play a sport like soccer as we all know. Should small sophomores be allowed to play on the freshman team in HS? Should all soccer leagues allow this practice (ECNL/NPL/travel/rec). Why does the DA, with the supposed best players do something like this?

it’s to fight Relative age effect and ensure that large, fast less technical players don’t get all of the attention. It’s part of widening the net so that small technical players get noticed and don’t fall through the cracks. That’s part of the DAs job

Then use size and weight brackets, like wrestling. Don't use age.

And you personally know who the 2004 players were on both teams. Weird.
