Any how, still doesn’t change the fact that st joes is the team you look at every year as a preseason favorite and it seems like every year they are in an fciac and state final. Won’t be any different this year. Staples is got some very good players and a dirtbag coach and should be in the mix as well. Ridgefield has developed a nice program with seemingly no big superstar players year in and year out, yet have found themselves in an fciac and/or state final it seems for way to many years in a row to be considered a fluke. McMahon is the flavor of the month because of one of the better players in the state, but good teams can shut one player down. Still nice to see a team that has sucked for so long climb the table. Fciac has plenty of wealthy schools with strong athletes that will make it competitive. I don’t really count Trumbull in that convo though. The planets would really need to align for them to win and fciac title. A state title this year, would require an apocalypse like event, think global warming flooding, meteor strike, or global nuclear war
Snowflake-guy is a st Joe's dad, of course!

Sad a guy like this coaches. All he does is yell. How is constant yelling acceptable at any level, let alone with children? And he yells misinformation and joysticks the players thru every play. Those who know what they’re looking at are disgusted with guys like this.

That’s why he doesn’t get any college looks. Also, look at the trend, U of Maryland coach is getting fired for old school ways, last Chance U coach watched first season and completely changed his ways. Grow up, different culture and now. Lead, teach and inspire. The days of yelling in short coaching shorts are ove!

A few old school HS coaches got tossed last year. Look for more this year. Yelling is one thing (one of ours is a yeller, but once kids get used to him they can figure out what he's yelling about). But yelling personal insults, which JN (and WM at YU) are known for, is another. Parents are putting their collective foot down. JN will be under close scrutiny because the Africa incident brought the school a lot of bad press.

College coach screaming isn't likely to go away any time soon. Schools put up with it until it brings media attention or hurts recruiting and program quality. Personally I think it's a poor way to coach, but the players are adults. In life you're going to have bosses you don't like and you have to figure out how to deal with it (coping strategies, leave). However, Bobby Knight chair throwing, physical altercations (or endangerment in the case of Maryland but still TBD), cruel name calling/berating should never be accepted.

this is in responce to the last 3 posters
you have no Fn clue what you are talking about- Yelling (if you know what to look for)
he yells on a sliding scale- the better you are the louder and sharper it is. but he will get the best out of your player and his teams play hard for him.
if your kid cant play, he isnt the guy for you. he doesnt babysit he coaches players

there was no Africa INCIDENT- there was a complaint and it was answered that was it

                Signed JN Azz Kisser

lol no incident. Also coaches don't need to yell to get the most out of their players. That's a weak move.

there was no incident-I was at the game and there was no stoppage or coaches meeting or refs or admin involvement- just a really bad soccer game

There doesn't have to be game stoppage to qualify as an "incident." The complaints weren't just about students in the stands but also about JN.

We get it, you love the guy. He must play your kid a lot.

Not the OP and nothing to do with SJ, but what about the word “accused” don’t you understand?

Agreed, also if it was such a big “incident”, how come there’s been absolutely no follow up press since the initial article that was posted above?

Because our local "press" is CT Post and the "Patch", fine institutions of journalism. Besides what is to follow up if the school or CIAC choses to ignore it, squash it or simply found no wrong doing? Prep had an even worse incident during a LAX game. They were very public about at least trying to make changes (time will tell). there have been other documented accusations of racism at local high schools - they all seem to flame up then go away. https://www.fairfieldcitizenonline.c...p-12976126.php

                                Greatest coach ever....

                                John Wooden

Never yelled. Got the most out of some of the greatest players in that era. But he did teach you how to put on your socks. No yelling needed when you focus to that level of detail. Expectations were made clear. Play up to them to stay in the game.

Ran some of the simplest practices you can imagine. But expected perfection. And got close to it.

You don't have to yell when you build a culture that doesn't require it. Simple.
