    GDA vs ECNL Summer Tournament

    https://www.philly.com/soccer/intern...ium%3Dsharebar

Seems interesting - below is an excerpt from above:

There will also be a youth tournament for girls’ teams, accompanying the youth tournament for boys’ teams that launched last year. It will include four of the top U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams, as chosen by Relevent with input from the Federation; four regional All-Star teams with players from ECNL and other non-Development Academy clubs; and four foreign teams.
It’s fairly big news that Development Academy and ECNL players will compete against each other. The two organizations are fierce rivals in recruiting and developing players, each with their own rules and loud marketing efforts.
But it apparently wasn’t that hard to get them to play in the same sandbox, especially once U.S. Soccer supported the plan.
“Everybody knows about this rivalry between the two, but they’ve been incredible,” Negron said. “They may have their discrepancies behind the scenes, but I think getting an opportunity to compete in a tournament like this, we haven’t had too many issues."

Would be very ironic and comical if ECNL opted not to play.

Of course they are going to play. They are behind it. Seems like a good idea, but are these instead of the actual championships held in both leagues? Or are they ancillary such as random picks - USSF will pick the DA/GDA teams - and ECNL will pick the ECNL teams? Or lastly, will they be true championships, the top four from each league? THAT will have some support except that in the older leagues, the older kids will be aged out possibly or off to college already and not interested. That is always a problem with the late games in both leagues for the older kids. Youth soccer is in their rear view mirror by then.

I expect ECNL to show up, and when their teams are not allowed to wear their home jerseys they will up and leave.

What a minute. So US Soccer will be involved in picking four top DA/GDA teams (not necessarily the top) and then four regional (PDP kids I would assume) ECNL and non-DA clubs All-star teams (not full teams of kids that have played together in season) and four foreign teams (full, in season top teams or just random academy/foreign league picks)?

It's not really league against league. League against league would be full in season teams from one league vs full, in season teams from another league. Too many variables. Seems like a teaser to keep all leagues relevant. USSF must be panicking based on the mass exodus.

Yeah, this format is silly. It's like the NFL deciding to pick an NFC all-conference team with a limited number of practices together to play against the Patriots. They're better off letting ECNL select their 4 top teams as they are doing with GDA.

We need more details (which will never come) as to the why. Maybe ECNL polled their clubs and said they didn't want to?

US Soccer scratching and clawing to stay relevant.
