Loads of complaints on the FL board about the dearth of coaches at this past weekend's composite event. Sounds like ECNL really screwed up that date (too many other things either competing with it or close to it like the DA showcase) plus most composite teams are seniors who should be committed by now. A lot of money and time spent/wasted by teams to go. With all the competition out there both DA and ECNL will have to have their act together.

The dilution and lack of a clear local destination team or teams is negative for soccer in New England. A top team or two, capable of playing with the best in the country, raises the playing standards and local level of play. It also positively impacts college placements.

A few of us predicted these impacts. Sad to see them happening. Profits to clubs don't equate to positive results for players.

My daughter's team played in the U18 bracket, and there were 5 coaches at the first two games (teams we've never heard of), and 19 coaches at the final game (main fields). Not sure if it's a combination of the fact that all our seniors are already committed, or players just didn't reach out. I know a few of the juniors are looking for schools in that area so hopefully it was worth it for them. Personally, since my daughter is already committed we were not looking to get exposure, just practice for the upcoming season. Our games were all competitive and the weather on Friday and Sunday was gorgeous!! And, at least it was less expensive than Disney:)

Everyone predicted these impacts. The more people trying to eat the same pizza, the smaller the slices. It is simple math.

No, it’s not. The banter is funny. Our friends’ daughters played, one BBA NPL 01 and one SSS 01 and they had a good time. I have seen the college coach lists, but that’s not bad for two non-DA, non-ECNL teams. It’s more of a pain for coaches. They will all be at DA next week, and they will all be at ECNL in January. Good exposure and opportunities for all the teams.

You are going by what the site says. But the reality is usually when top 16's and 17's brackets play, the sidelines are completely full with coaches from top D1 schools. I didn't see that and that's where quality is measured.

As long as the coach from the player's desired school is there watching, who cares about the other coaches?

That's not exactly a significant nose dive. Plus some coaches never register or do it last minute and show up. It's still an excellent list.

Agree. But you know also that after a player commits her coach will go to events to watch her play.

Too sane and measured for this site. Move along.

Makes no sense. The point of consumption is to be a better player surely? or else why consume at all ?

They can better chose a club that is best suited for them and their specific needs. The driver could be coaching, competitive level, exposure, proximity to home, role of HS sports to them, friends...whatever.

Don't forget exposure and college opportunity is a huge driver in soccer, not always becoming a better player.

you just nailed whats wrong with the whole thing. Being a better player gets the exposure. Too many families forget that.

The solution to all these problems is to start another new and more elite league.
