Use of the word "blame" in the topic of this thread implies that there is something bad or wrong with transferring. What's the problem with changing institutions to find a better/less expensive/more appropriate fit?

It is interesting that all the complaints about early recruiting being bad for girls doesn't play out since they transfer at half the rate as men. Don't get me wrong - I think early recruiting should go for many reasons. But it doesn't seem to impact the transfer rate nearly as much as you'd think. Eight-ten% probably isn't that unusual vs non athletes. So do girls either

      1) do a better job picking the school vs the soccer, so if soccer falls apart it's still ok?
      2) once in don't want to leave friends, teammates etc? Boys do seem less emotionally attached generally speaking
      3) do a better job picking the level of soccer that is right for them?
      4) have less intense competition for their spots because there's more programs and fewer international players vs men's?

      5) A bit of all of the above/we'll never really know

None of it will ever be perfect. Minds get changed, mistakes get made. If a student decides to transfer all you can hope is that they end up in a better situation, be it academics, sports or just general happiness.

Should have targeted the right school to begin with. Even without the soccer component.

Kids make mistakes, they change majors, they get homesick...in other words, sh*t happens even when it seems like the the perfect fit.

I think a lot of it has to do with money as well. Women's teams usually have more money (more scholarships) so on average each player usually gets a little bit bigger piece of the pie then the men's teams. If a female is getting 50% versus a male getting 25%, it's an easier decision for the male to transfer without it dramatically affecting his financial situation.

Your kid knew what they wanted to do in life at 16? Pretty sure most kids at that age mostly care about playing soccer and hanging out with friends. High transfer rate will always be there.

Good point! Also think as a society we’re more likely to tell our boys to “man up and deal with any playing time/coach issues”...where we’re more likely as parents to help our princess girls find a better/happier fit. I see that difference play out everyday in youth soccer.

It's there for athletes and non athletes alike. I don't think the soccer rates are crazy and I agree men's attitudes and the money make their situations a little different than girls. Most times if you're targeting right for school and academics it's going to work out. If it didn't the transfer rates would be 30% or more.

But you should look to see if the programs your kid is applying to have a lot of roster churn (you can look up old rosters and track players). If there are a lot of players that don't make it could be a sign of potential trouble

It’s the coaches’ fault. They play your kid right off, hoping for a miracle. When they observe a few flaws, they quickly dash next season to the next recruiting class or a transfer figuring the bird in the bush is better. Rarely is.

Club soccer. Everyone wants to take credit for sending x player to this or that school in order to market for the next generation

                        10%

There is no problem. Move on

There's a post from today's parent who isn't actually their son or daughter's parent but their 'pal'. Sure Johnny or Cindy, you go wherever you think is best and just tell me how much to make the check out for and where to send it.

A good parent is not only very involved but also involved for the right reasons and not afraid to stand their ground. McDonald's always has room for a good fry cook if Johnny doesn't like it.

Is the transfer wire public? Would like to know which schools have a higher than normal rate of players transferring out. Would also like to know which schools tend to favor transfers in over freshman/sophomores.

top drawer publishes a complete list every year, someone posted links to each when this exact same thread topic was being discussed. It might have been embedded in a broader topic so you might be able to search for it here or on top drawer.
