Games don't end in ties in 0-0 ties in the tournament, meaning someone has to win. Thought Brookline would put up at least a couple of goals on Newton North. Keep in mind SJP didn't score against Weymouth and would think they would have more trouble against Brookline.

Brookline has beaten Wellesley, Weymouth and Framingham and has given Malden their only tie. Brookline's only 2 losses this season was against Needham. Nobody has a Needham in their division except the BSL, take away those losses and they are undefeated in still a very tough conference. *Note, don't have the last result against Braintree.

...and Framingham has tied Needham twice. Although they have two losses, I am picking Framingham to go to the North finals.

Appreciate you providing the thinking behind the pick. You're focusing on those Ws, which can't be denied. I give a little weight to the game reports, which were that Framingham dominated Brookline and Wellesley was pretty even. It's not good to focus on the score of a particular game, but over a season of now 15 games for Brookline, their scores collectively mean something. We give them credit for doing well defensively, but it's not as if they lead the league in fewest goals allowed (they are 3rd). And in fairness to emphasizing those wins (add Natick) and ties (add Marshfield), let's also note 2 ties with Newton North and an aggregate 4 goals scored in 9 games vs d1 tourney qualifiers. Agree that the odds of them playing a tie have to be higher than anyone. In the tournament, that brings us to shootouts. Since the chance of advancing is only 50%, it seems hard to pick a shootout-likely team to go far.

According to the globe they're 11-3-1 which is a good record but with no real marquee wins. I've seen them play a few times and they play a good brand of soccer but if the announcers were right when saying the lineup they start 5 freshmen and 2 sophomores and no seniors. Too young to compete this year. Could contend in the next couple years if they can keep all their players eligible.

I heard that, one of the freshman is doing the majority of their scoring. I just know they have had some good teams in the past. It'll be interesting to see them come tourney time. Don't they usually play Brockton and Bch during the season?

Much more reasonable to project framingham than brookline. Framingham has very skilled players, scores more, and allows fewer goals than Brookline. Framingham could work on more one- and two-touch passing, because their possessions are not as productive as they could be due to those skilled players going one on one more than they should.

Some interesting things going on in Middlesex Liberty league. Belmont beat Winchester, 3-2, on Tuesday and Reading beat Winchester, 4-3. Also that day, Arlington became the fourth team from that league to qualify for the tournament with a 0-0 tie with Woburn. I believe that if Reading and Woburn tie on Saturday, they will both be in, meaning all teams in that league qualified.

Lexington and Arlington will get a chance in their last regular season week to see what the tournament holds as Lexington plays Needham and Arlington plays BC high.

Congratulations to all. Bay State Conference had a recent season when 10-11 of the 12 teams, including all 6 in the large-school division, qualified. Impressive.

                        d1 south thru 10/22

Below adds results of Barnstable's win yesterday, moving them up to 6 and Brockton down to 7. Silver Lake's 1-1 tie with Pembroke and Marshfield'd 2-1 loss to B-R (ouch!) from Tuesday are added too (Silver Lake drops into a tie with Barnstable, Marshfield into a tie with KP and Weymouth). In older games, New Bedford's 10/17 win over B-R is added. Also, looks like the 9/25 New Bedford-Durfee game was postponed to 10/18, ending 1-1. These not posted to MIAA, but reflected below.

That was 2010. All 9 d1 teams made it, plus 2 of the d2s.

Thanks for this. Does this mean there is a pool of 15 - and that the number one team will have a bye?

It's shaping up that #1 will get a bye. #2 or 3 could as well if others such as Weymouth don't qualify in the end.
