How do you plan to disallow it? Any mom or dad with a license can coach a premier team. It may not be a good team, but it will fit the definition.

There seems to be a lot of ire in this thread directed toward club teams. Is club soccer really the root of all the evils afflicting youth soccer (and, specifically, RI Super Liga)?

Such a small state. Every parent knows every player, coach etc especially if they have a few kids playing in a few age groups. So since the state is small we all know who is doing what. We know which clubs are shady, which athletes are dominant, which coaches are club and town. No getting away with anything. Superliga seems to be the only one clueless. But come on, we all know. This state is about winning. Highly competitive and player development and players even young ones are not getting equal playing time. It’s politics and it’s crooked on so many levels. Hey this state practically has a statue of Cianci in federal hill.., wait, does it? Small corrupt state...but some good soccer players nevertheless.

How to disallow it is to set rules that coaches can not coach in other leagues it's a simple solution. Coaches and all clubs are not held accountable for their actions. Instead, we're too worried about setting penalties on teams who score too many goals. Come on...

If you’re worried about poaching players from town programs then that might work. If you’re trying to keep out “club” teams that won’t work. They can just sign up someone’s parent as head coach.

What kind of a person would do that. Thats a pretty devious plan just to get advantage at youth soccer....we are talking about little girls and boys...who would do this?

Just got the email Superliga says no soccer until April 15. Not bad. I’m expecting the season will go later now too.

Doubt it's anything quite so nefarious. More likely you have a town full of crazy soccer parents who all sign up their kids to the same club... but they still want to play Super Liga. Might be because they want a bunch of kids from different age groups to play on the same team or just because they can't get enough soccer or whatever... So they sign up just like before, and one of the town parent/coaches from before remains the coach, and now you have one of those infamous "club" town teams.

                  Kids shouldn’t be:
                  Playing for multiple teams
Playing multiple games in a weekend

                  Coaches shouldn't be:
                  Associated with other clubs

Set rules to fix this, and until we set rules RI clubs, players, and coaches will always be a laughing stock. We need some to speak up and it needs to happen soon.

🙇🏻 It would be interesting to see RI clubs stop competing against each other and start to put powerhouse teams to crush MA clubs. Maybe Soccer Rhode Island should think about partnering up with a club an use them as a recommendation for club soccer instead of letting players go to these Charlie Brown clubs.

I agree about the coaches but not the kids. Let them play as much as they want. That’s up to them and their parents.
I agree that if we drop the Charlie Brown clubs We could put together a powerful team at each age level for boys and girls. Problem is SRI and ODP was supposed to do that but everyone that had talent left because it’s a very disorganized poorly run program with all Bayside coaches. Failure. But could have been good.

This is just a reality even for kids playing only for their town. There are scheduling reasons why multiple games per weekend can happen. A lot of towns may need (or desire) players subbing for other teams.

Again what if your town is hiring professional coaches? The same coach is most likely going to have some sort of association multiple organizations.

What would be the overarching goal behind these rule changes? Putting together all-star teams to beat MA club teams doesn't sound any better than all-star teams beating RI town teams.

This could be Superliga’s chance to shine. Right now there are club parents stressed out and some pissed off. They took a gamble paying a few thousand dollars this year expecting better training, coaches and competition. Now that the soccer has stopped during the pandemic parents are upset that they are out of the money they paid. Most paid in full by now so each cancelled training session and game hurts them. Not all rich parents doing club lots of regular parents making sacrifices and now they are out lots of money because the clubs aren’t taking about extending the season or honoring the contracts. They can’t afford to reimburse parents. So now town soccer looks like a better safer choice. Atleast if the town season is over the parents lose only about $150 give or take. Smarter gamble.
What Superliga should do is extend the season and offer extra practices if they practice once a week up it to 2... etc. parents want more training opportunities. I predict a mass exodus from club soccer after this financial hit to families. Competitive Town soccer will come out on top, if they extend the season and increase practices.

This is the first time since my kids were born we have stopped play due to an epidemic. Do you plan on this happening again with your comment about risk? I’d say for the foreseeable future it is minimum.

Town teams should get together and part ways from the Superliga and just create a league ran and operated through soccer RI.
