USSR was famous for supporting industries that put out a poor product. If GM was putting out a poor product, then they should have corrected their problems or failed. The US taxpayers should not be expected to bail out GM for the poor decisions they make running their company.

      This is considered a rescue?

DC needs a giant cleansing at its core. Start all over again. Run government like a business and jettison parts of it that arent working ie the Post Office.

Should we bail out the 9 billion/year losing enterprise known as the Post Office?

No. The times are changing and PO has to be forced to change with the times.

And I guess doubling the debt and pleading with China to keep us afloat is better?

GM and Chrysler should have gone under. Weak products and companies should not survive. That's economic evolution. Should we subsidize the Boston Globe or should we recognize the newspaper industry in the US is largely obsolete and anything can be found on-line. Have some faith in the Entrepeneurial ability of the US to replace these industries with the more relevant growth businesses. Borrowed money from China to create Public Work projects on our highways sounds right but it makes the problem much worse.

You want real economic recovery and jobs? Provide tax relief to the small and mid size businesses. They will hire and feel they can expand. They are the ones that provide most, if not all, of the true recovery jobs in this country. And, by the way, still pay the vast majority of taxes. Wake up!

The next time you experience any confusion about why unions are necessary, watch the movie Matewan. True story. Cleared up any confusion about what side I was on.

The pendulum tends to swing back and forth. At one time unions were necessary because of greedy owners. Now the pendulum is swinging the other way because of greedy unions. I don't have a problem at all with unions in the private sector. The free market when allowed to work will keep things in balance. I do have a problem with unions in the public sector, because unions feed politicians and politicians give favors in return. Meanwhile the taxpayer gets screwed.

But wasn't it the Dems who were complaining about Palin using a target when campaigning for Republicans last fall? So how come they complain about things like that, even though "targeting" political opponents during a campaign is a pretty common analogy for either party. I think right after that there was evidence of the DNC using bullseyes and I don't recall anyone in either party complaining. So how come the Dems don't step to the plate on this one? This isn't the first time in recent history that the Dems came across rather hypocritically on the issue of toning down the rhetoric. Doesn't it get rather old blaming Republicans for stuff the Dems are more than willing to look the other way when it's one of their own?

Can you imagine the outcry from the left if that was Obama in the hangman's noose instead of Bush?

It's actually pretty funny what the left considers as nasty stuff. Here's a compilation from the Huffington Post.

A 25 year old film about something that happened a century ago??? Don't you think there have been some changes since then that might affect your perception? One of those changes is Obama's intention to shut down the coal mines.

Though Hoffa’s hateful rhetoric does open a window for Americans into the true nature of extremist left-wing labor bosses, it does not engage thoughtful discussion on how to create jobs and get our economy moving again. The president should call out Hoffa and other union leaders for attacking their fellow Americans in this way, regardless of disagreements on how best to help our great nation. While he's at it, the President should question his own Vice President saying that labor activists are the only thing keeping the "barbarians" from the gates.

Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa had some profane, combative words for Republicans while warming up the crowd for President Obama in Detroit, Michigan on Monday.

"We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They've got a war, they got a war with us and there's only going to be one winner. It's going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We're going to win that war," Jimmy Hoffa Jr. said to a heavily union crowd.

"President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let's take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong," Hoffa added.

Obama addressed the crowd shortly after Hoffa.

UPDATE: Obama Says He Is "Proud" Of Hoffa After Union Leader's Remarks

I am not anti labor by anybody's definition. The unions continue to live in the dreamworld that the Democrats are good and the Republicans are bad. IF the unions continue to live in their dreamworld, they and the middle class will cease to exist. The most anti-labor (union or non union) event to take place in the last 20 years was the passing of NAFTA and like free trade agreements. BUBBA Clinton could have stopped it cold but chose not to. So called labor super heroes Kennedy and Kerry also voted for NAFTA. Pat Buchannon(R) and Ross Perot(I) were against NAFTA but the rank and file continues to support the Democrats. Know your enemy people.

The D's vote for NAFTA and MANY, MANY of the manufacturing jobs moved to Mexico and beyond (gone, history!!). The huge mess St Obama walked into was due to Bubba falling asleep at the wheel. He had at least 3 chances to whack bin laden and never did anything. Know your enemy people. If 9/11 did not take place much of the huge mess you speak of would not have happened.
