Exactly Timbers Academy always holds tryouts before the Clubs so the one's that don't make will have a backup tryout.

They have determined the tryout dates, but didn't list those dates yet.

As has been talked about and agreed upon in multiple meetings, for the 2016-17 seasonal soccer year, to participate in the Timbers and Thorns Leagues, all clubs will abide by the same tryout dates.

The State Cup Finals will be played on May 7, 2016. May 8 is Mother’s Day. No club will hold a competitive tryout for Girls of any age group prior to Monday, May 9, 2016. No club will hold a competitive tryout for Boys of any age group prior to Thursday May 12. This will allow the Portland Timbers Academy staff to hold tryouts for their U18 (1998 & 1999 birthyears), U16 (2000 & 2001 birthyears) and U14 (2002, 2003 & 2004 birthyears) age groups uninterrupted on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.

Any club or team that does not abide by these tryout date restrictions, will be denied entry into the Timbers and Thorns Leagues. This information will also be posted on the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) website.

Thanks for your adherence to these agreed upon rules, as well as your continued support of the Timbers.

Nobody willing supports the Timbers. They do make a lot of money off the league fees though.

And when does anyone actually get picked at Timbers Academy tryouts? There are some players at those try outs who make the team, but they've already been practicing with them. Players are brought into academy from ODP except at the older ages, who come from out of state. Academy try outs are good for pre-try out preparation but it's a little spendy at $150.

                  Fake News!
How many 04/05 players are training up at the 03/02 Academy team? I know one as his dad has connections otherwise he has no business playing. Out of State? Nothing in Idaho. New Mexico Timber Hub? What families in their right mind are willing to relocate to Portland. GL there!

The only players that make the timbers academy are the ones doing private training with Tracy Jason and Ryan Miller. They don't pick the top players in the area.

Buzz feed news. Both of them only train top talent, but doesn't mean their a shoe in to make the Academy. Say ain't so!

Oh it's well known that the kids that pay for private training get the inside track to making the academy. The academy doesn't even have the top players in the area. Mostly because they don't pick the top players. The other reason is because a lot of players quit because of the average environment. Imagine being part of a group of 40 players trying to make a roster of 16-18 each week. No game counts at all. No wonder why these kids go back to the crappy high game.

You are completely off the mark. There are a number of boys on the current 02/03 Academy team that never took a private from Ryan or Tracy before making the team. They pick what they think are the best players. Sorry if that does not coincide with what you think are the best players but your a parent and they are coaches. Do they get it 100% correct all the time? They will tell you, No. Thats why there are tryouts every year and they bring kids in to train all the time.

If you think this is average environment, then you have not spent anytime watching trading sessions and don't understand what they are trying to accomplish. Is there a group of 40 players vying for 18 game day spots yes. It creates a competitive environment and kids have ups and downs and some need time to develop. If they took 18 you would complain they did not give enough boys a chance. The best boys don't leave. They boys that can't take the environment and they ones that figure out they aren't getting game time and not going to get time leave. Thats what happens as you go up the pyramid.Players that don't have the ability or are not willing to make the sacrifices to continue to get better leave.

This is the best program in the area for young boys to continue to develop to a higher level. If you don't believe that you are either kidding yourself or naive

He has Never developed a player or accomplished anything in coaching as 20 something

Forced to do private lessons just to pay rent since Timbers dont pay him squat

Why do you a believer? I seen a lot of players that train with being left off ODP squads where one or both were assisting at tryouts. There are a couple of players who never played ODP or reds 1 at club level and made the team this season. Everyone gets a clean slate at tryouts. Some top players don't want that environment or parents don't want to 150 for a tryout or just too far to travel for training 4x a week. You can argue the same for Club soccer. It's politics in some way or form any way you slice it.
Thought they take up to 30 per team, but could be wrong. Their fee is 500 for the year which is a deep discount to Club's who rape you for 3k plus a year.
