They are obviously most interested in having their top players on the Bayern National Team track, taking trips to train over in Munich, etc. DA players are barred from participating in any of the Bayern programs by the USSF, so the DA team will end up with players who are not aspiring for the Bayern National team, i.e. second tier players. The more the Bayern program strengthens, the weaker the DA program will become, and soon GPS will not be able to compete with the other DA teams in the region, and will have to give it up.

In other words, they don't need the allure of the DA program to keep their pockets well lined. With the money Bayern is making off of the huge number of kids involved with GPS (just look at the number of teams in MA alone, then add in 16 more states!), Bayern/GPS can certainly afford sending a handful of teams abroad in the summer. Also, with that large of a pool to pull from, there are bound to be some decent players on these National teams, such that they may have a decent showing at the international tournaments, which will help to suck more unsuspecting parents into the club. Actually pretty brilliant marketing, if you look at the scale of it. And it just keeps growing every year....

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostOf course, the Bayern affiliation is a huge marketing gimmick, but I think it is still going to take top players out of the DAP program, and will eventually kill GPS DAP. You obviously have no idea what the Bayern National team is (made up of all GPS players, the best from Canada & 17 US states with GPS clubs). If you look on the website, it looks almost like they are modeling this off of the US YNT program, or probably even more like the ID2 program, in that they are holding a national camp of about 150 players in SC this weekend, with Bayern "scouts" identifying top players to fill their National Team rosters. These teams will then travel abroad to play in various tournaments this spring and summer, including the FC Bayern Youth Cup in Munich.

what's the allure? A small chance of your son playing abroad (and getting killed by the teams over there). Only 2nd rate players will make these teams. The best will go to DAP.
Can they still play High School soccer? If so that's the only "advantage" (in some eyes) compared to DAP
