thread on the CT board. Some speculation that the coach used it as an excuse to cut her for an incoming frosh. She had started 9 games as a freshman so she was no slacker and has done very well at Hofstra. If it really was just about the incident and she can prove male athletes are given much more leniency she has grounds for a case. Certainly plenty of cases of revenue male athletes given a slap on the wrist for not only worse behavior but criminal behavior.

Sad to think that Men's football and basketball will set the bar for behavior. Those aren't intercollegiate sports, they are the farm systems for the pros. Graduation and attendance at classes is optional in some places like UK. It will be a very low standard, but these programs fund the athletic department.

If it can be proven UConn was clearing scholarship money to sign Andrews as reported below, this could get ugly.

He's not known as being the greatest guy either so it's entirely possible. It's bad PR too. UCONN should just settle. They might not want to open up that can of worms, especially in regards to how male athletes are treated differently.

If the court finds in favor of the plaintiff, it will open the way for a tremendous amount lawsuits in women's soccer. It may trickle down to the club level also . This should be interesting.

Not so sure about that. Her case is different in that they took away her scholarship midyear. All athletic scholarships are up for review at the end of each year and the coach has a great deal of latitude on why they pull money from an athlete. UCONN used the incident as a reason to kick her to the curb and most would agree it wasn't warranted. Smarter move by the coach would have been to wait until the annual process and just say "sorry it just isn't working out." Then she'd have a tougher case to prove.

As for male (primarily revenue) athletes getting leniency time and time again, that's got to stop. If this draws continued attention to the issue then it's a good thing. If it forces schools to get more detailed in their athletic agreements so that coaches have follow some kind of protocol for canning players, that is also a good thing.

It certainly has gotten a lot of press. Makes UCONN Look bad (even if legally they had the right to do so and her case has no merit). They might rush to settle just to shut it down and not bring more scrutiny to the entire athletics department.

                          Here's the press conference.

2 lawsuits pending. One in federal court or taking her scholarship away mid season illegally, and the other in state court for twice failing to diagnose and treat a dislocated, injured shoulder.

Only person getting positive press is Morgan Andrews who Noriana's lawyer congratulates for scoring the first goal leading USC to a national championship. You can't make this stuff up.
