USSF, you'd better prepare for some VERY short lines at GDA signup.
Invite only. So no lines at all.

They'll let the players continue with high school so it will be the new ECNL, like orange was the new black. But then cut, they will say GDA practices and games supercede high school sports. High school soccer will no longer be any fun. Then parents will get the late sticker shock after they have already signed up. GDA travel won't be a free ride.

Most do. It's only the minuscule number that might be National Team players that don't. There are only a handful of those players in Florida at any one time.

This is the mindset at USSF. They are completely clueless. I would love to see the look on their faces when most of their GDA "invitations" get declined.

But GDA is letting players who have already started playing high school be "grandfathered" into being allowed to play high school. But GDA will tell its players that GDA comes first so in reality how much high school will the player really be playing. GDA practices would be right after high school practices and its not healthy to do five hours of soccer a night. The player can put high school soccer on her resume but she won't be playing much high school soccer.

The whole idea of being grandfathered in to play high school is a deception. Yes, GDA will technically allow players to play high school, "if allowed by the club", but the truth is none will allow it. This was done so the GDA promoters could say they don't prohibit high school soccer and suck more players in. The smart ones will see right through it.

No High school soccer for girls is not going to float well...Unlike the boys, who have an opportunity to play professionally (even in a 3rd division league like USL Pro 1), the girls play high school, college and the NWSL, if good enough...Boys have a lot more opportunities to advance in this sport than the girls do...so missing high school soccer is going to be a no-no for most girls

There are a lot of sucky high school teams and coaches, and the player may opt for the GDA.

People keep making comments like "may opt for the GDA", or "my kids playing in the GDA", etc. People are forgetting one very important detail. The GDA is going to be very exclusive.

Clubs that are in the GDA are going to have three teams - 14/15, 16/17. and 18/19. US Soccer has already said that the teams will be composed as equally as possible so that both ages are evenly represented. They have also said that they would like roster sizes to be about 23 players. They really don't want roster sizes bigger than that because they will probably have the 25% start rule that the boys DA has (all players must start at least 25% of games). They will also want the players to actually PLAY pretty significant time in each game. That means that large rosters won't work. So, given all of that, there will be approximately 11 players of each age on each team. About 11 14s and 11 15s on the 14/15 roster, etc. That's an exclusive group of players and it isn't going to be quite as easy as a player "opting for the GDA." Most players won't be good enough.

We'll see how many of the 24 girls invited per age group accept the gda invitation and forgo school sports. I'm guessing half will turn it down , so gda will then go after the next batch of girls which were originally turned down , which in turn will water everything down.

Huh? You're saying they can't try out unless they're invited? Please explain how that will work.

Sorry but the GDA sales pitch isn't very compelling. USSF should prepare for most of those invitations to be turned down. How many rounds will it take to fill those "exclusive" roster spots? How far down in the talent pool will they have to reach? USSF is in for a big surprise.

Do they even have a sales pitch? I haven't heard anything but empty cheerleading and baseless proclamations from the USSF propagandists.

Yes, the current HS girls will be grandfathered in. The catch is that GDA and their clubs will not take a break during November, December, January, & February with the exception of major holidays. These clubs will be training 4x a week through those months. Sure a player may have the option of skipping out GDA training for HS, but how will that reflect on the player, their development, and their playing time.

This is another reason that ECNL discovery players will not be participating in GDA unless they can attend the required training sessions or if their is a GDA program closer to home. Those 2 hr drives one way 4x a week will be very tough on the player and in reality may not be worth it. ECNL may benefit from the excess of discovery players to the point that they may increase the number of players allowed per team.
