If you applied for the Gold div and they don't know you they might put you in a lower div. if they don't accept you at all it usually means they do know you and they just don't like you.

NCAA rankings matter a great deal to college players. The best team is the one at the top at the end of the year. Gives them something to work for. And it matters greatly to them whether you finish 3 or 10. Why do you expect high school kids to be wired any differently? Pride is pride, and what motivates performance.
I dont buy the old "we know who is at the top" BS so there is no need for a ranking system. Results on the field determine who is the top, and those results should be objectively represented in a fair and accurate ranking system.

A good, objective ranking system could be a good way to eliminate this kind of injustice.

GotSoccer is not it, but if there were one, many kids would be inspired to build their ranking. Just like a company takes pride in building its brand, or an employee takes pride in building their position.

2. These are kids. If anyone is looking to be #1 in the state, it is the parents. Even if you are #1 in the state, you are not including DAs. So, you cannot say you are the best team in Florida. So, what's the point?
The only value of GS rankings is to separate very good/good/ average/ bad for certain tournaments.

I would like to see an objective, fair, meaningful ranking system put in place and I think it would be a healthy thing.

Would be great if youth soccer were not so un-American, with an impenetrable wall between the privileged aristocratic class (DA) and the lower classes (such that the latter can never prove the arbitrary, sometimes corrupt decision makers wrong. Europe is more American in the way they run soccer than we are - lower tier teams get ample opportunity to prove they are better than higher tier teams, rankings are systematic, and leagues change - all based on RESULTS ON THE FIELD not bullsh!t subjectivity.
