In case you thought the City of Pembroke Pines could help WPU
Over the past week, I have spoken with Mr. Brian Tuffin several times about the election issue and the West Pines/Weston girl’s teams. First regarding the election. Section 6.2 of the City’s Facility Use Agreement (FUA) requires that the Board of Director’s consist of at least 75% Pines residents. The current board makeup does not consist of 75% Pines residents. Section 6.2 further requires that if the club is not in compliance that they must select Pines residents only to bring the club into compliance. According to Mr. Tuffin, if this election had taken place the club would still not have met the 75% requirement. The board is currently seven members. Mr. Tuffin advised that the board is going to reduce to three members. This is a decision of the club and not a requirement of the City. The decision of the board to postpone the election is a club decision. As for the West Pines/Weston (WPW) elite teams, Mr. Tuffin assured me that while the selection process for the WPW elite teams is complete, West Pines is still forming teams for the girls that did not make it on the WPW teams.
In both emails below, you have asked the City to “step in”. The City does not get involved in business decision of the club. Both the postponement of the elections and the alliance created with Weston are business decisions. I know that is not what you want to hear. I know that some parents are upset with the two recent decisions the club has made. I assure you that I am monitoring the situation very closely. My focus with the West Pines travel soccer club is to ensure the club is upholding their requirements of the Facility Use Agreement. I have asked Mr. Tuffin to look into your situation directly to make sure you are getting all the information you need to make decisions about your family’s involvement in the organization.
