Well. I guess that’s up the person. I wonder what the board of parents will do when the complaints start rolling in about him as a coach. Who will have the stones to stand up to him?

Nobody will. And that’s a shame. Surrounded by yes men.

The DOC position is the one most are familiar with when it comes to club leadership. How much power should a DOC have in how a club is run?

STEVE GANS: This is a great question. One of my good friends in the game hits the nail on the head when he says: “DOC’s of youth clubs are kings. They are kings of a very small kingdom (i.e., the club), but kings nonetheless.” One of the main reasons they are kings is that parents so often are extra deferential to them because they believe that the playing and playing future fate of their child is in the hands of the DOC.

In most cases, parents of current players are those who serve on the Club Board. And thus, there is an inherent conflict of interest in that Board position. That conflict of interest is neither financial nor legal in nature. It is rather, a far more visceral and emotional conflict of interest – involving the love of and hopes for a child. A Board member voting against the wishes of or disciplining a DOC does an internal gut check in such case – for he or she will be concerned that the DOC may react to such disappointment by restricting the related child’s playing time or opportunities. Every Board member who is a current club parent has that thought in those situations, and it is not easy to find enough Board members who have the strength to make the right call irrespective of the potential repercussions.

The DOC should have significant input and influence in many matters, but there should be real checks and balances on his or her power and influence. That is achieved both by delineating the responsibilities and powers of the DOC in his or her Employment Agreement, and by choosing Board members who have the strength at all times to act independently -- irrespective of the fear that their child might suffer for the sins (i.e. a decision contrary to the DOC) of the parent.

What are some of the main things youth clubs can do to defend themselves against lawsuits or legal issues?

STEVE GANS: In an overarching sense, the most important thing club leaders can do is to ensure that the organization is run as professionally as possible. In so many cases, youth clubs have started as modest grassroots organizations and they have had meteoric growth in connection with the sport’s (and related pay-to-play) boom, and often the sophistication of the club’s operation does not keep pace.

Make sure that the right people are in place. Coaches should coach and administrators should administrate. It is essential to get an independent Board of Directors – not a rubber stamp Board – in place.....

                None of these are correct-

Their philosophy is simple and somewhat successful-

“Recruit outside of the club like hell because we can’t develop players”
                Great mission statement

Is there any club in Oregon where the Board isn’t all about benefitting their own precious offspring?

Thats a tired retort on this site. Look at his 03 girls team. More than half have been with the club for over 5 years. The newer players left their old club because they either wanted better training or they wanted to be a part of a positive, goal oriented team situation. Mock it all you want, but its the truth.

You can hate on MJ for all sorts of reasons, but he has done a great job of developing the players on his team. 4 consecutive State Cups. Early commits. Multiple quality showcase opportunities. The results speak for themselves.

Interesting. What about all his other teams he threw to the wind? Or are you unaware of all of that. And if you are aware of that, its okay because the 03 team did well?

I honestly think its refreshing a parent apparently from his 03 girls team agrees there are all sorts of reasons to hate MJ. Kudos brave parent...kudos.

                          Is this....

Is this the club he took from BSC to HSC to IFC ? Have to admit they are really really good. It would be cool to see what they could do in the ECNL or GDA too.

Not really a club. It is an independent team he took from BSC to HSC to IFC back to HSC to OU. It has something like 4 or 5 of the players that left BCS. He was smart to take a young team this time. When he took the team from THUSC to BSC they aged out before he could move them again.

What quality commits? What "multiple" showcases? Not mocking anything other than the fact that the GPS parents oversell everything just like MJ.

I see what you are doing. You changed the question from if they have commits to if they have "quality" commitments. It's not about them playing in showcases, but about your approval of the venues being classified as "multilple" showcases. Going by your standards, is D1 quality? Is playing in front of 5 or more college coaches a showcase?
