Know several players that committed as earl sophomores that didn’t get better and actually got worse but the coach had to stand by the verbal. Those players will now find the official verbal not coming on Aug1 of junior year.

Originally posted by UnregisteredCoaches don't have to stand by the verbal. Many will but they don't have to. If the players weren't college material then it would have come out one way or another. Better to not get recruited and face reality sooner than later. Getting a spot then never playing and getting cut? No fun. Pushing back the timeline is best for players and programs. Coaches wanted it and voted as such

They expected others would race before the deadline, and felt they had to.
So the important question is will they trust each other to follow the new rules?

Will they trust each other? Tough to say. If it doesn't work then new rules can be passed to close loopholes and limit contact even more. That might be the motivation to get most to abide most of the time.

If people were smart, these changes would push families to avoid spending money on showcase travel or ID camps in 8th grade and even freshmen year of HS. No contact is no contact. You have sophomore year to attend ID camps and showcases if that is your thing.

Ok, so three days past the magical May 1 date and Soccer Wire is announcing verbal commitments for the 2022's.

Got it. Would still think coaches would advise recruits against that sort of thing.
Under the old/new rules, coaches wouldn't even approach a player after a game for the innocuous 'good game #7', for fear of it being taken the wrong way.

Are D2 rules the same as D1 now? I have a 2022 player- we are combining vacations and visiting schools this summer. Can she still call coaches and initiate communications?

No communication rules until June 15 completing 10th grade is for D1. For D2, players can still call coaches.
