^ Totally. It's also highly inaccurate.

There is no accurate site out there. If you have a serious player of high school age, it can be interesting. No real need to pay.

And contrary to what is often written here, you don't have to pay anything to get ranked/rated.

Getting ranked or rated isn’t something that you pay for. Top drawer attends all of the larger DA and ECNL events, they scout the games along college coaches. They typically will write up summaries of games or the events and often times those are paid content.

Kids that are ranked are typically stand outs in the events, early D1 recruits, National pool kids etc. can’t buy your way in but some of it is nonsense

And the rankings are way, way off. A few scouts can't possibly cover all the games, and that's only for DA and ECNL so many other players are left off. Good players aren't ranked, ok players are ranked high. It feeds egos, little else.

It’s the same as Gotsoccer rankings. OW NPL, South Central and Ginga are top ranked teams in the state according to them. Obviously that’s not true

Top drawer isn’t helping anyone get recruited.

No system will ever be perfect, but TDS isn't what they claim it to be. Check the website for soccer news, not player rankings

Kids that are ranked have typically paid their money and attended a TDS event/showcase/clinic or are well-connected!

At younger ages, then their players (not OW so much) go to play for the other clubs and swing the pendulum in their favor. This is what happens to all small clubs that have good u-littles. They get weaker when their top 3 or 4 players leave and go to a Big 3 that couldn't develop their own stables and are forced to replace them. Very ironic. The Big 3 are good at aggregating talent, not developing or training it.

The soccer world is small, if you are playing at a high level. (To get there definitely leaves talented kids out). You don't have to have been at one of their events if you are making a splash elsewhere.

It is nice to put on your soccer resume, but doesn't mean all that much. They definitely don't have every talented player listed. But it very broadly has some merit. If you are a 4 star player, you aren't a crap player, though there may be other kids who should have 4 stars listed, or that maybe you really are 3 stars.

absolutely not true. It's 100% free to put player profiles on there.

Ranking is subjective and totally the opinion of the staff that operates that site. When ODP was better kids that made the regional pool always got ranked, kids that scored or stood out at big showcases get ranked and so do nearly all D1 commits especially in a small state like CT. There's no science behind it but it's not pay for play nor do college coaches remotely care about it.

It is, but so many very strong kids who do end up with no ranking. It's not magic, you have to be connected .... how does TDS rank 75,000 kids each year? Seriously, think about it.

They have a blog post explaining how. My son is not on a DA or ECNL team and is ranked. I created a free profile, because, why not? Read the post explaining the rankings, and sent them a one sentence email letting them know his team and links to a couple of articles about him. Forgot about it, checked back 3 months later to find they gave him 3 stars.

Yes, it means little, but it's still nice.

So in other words you got your kid rated, not TDS. I think that's the point. Their ratings are a joke.
