Why even compare golf with soccer? Have your soccer loving kid spend their childhood playing golf so they can try to get a scholarship? If they don't like it they won't be very good and the facts show that not many of them care to play it

The reality is that soccer is a blast to play. You would not know it reading the whining and complaining on here but the players adore it. That explains its popularity, not that race to try to get a college placement.

Before this change official visits weren't until senior year yet plenty of players still found ways to commit well before that. Players can talk to coaches, just not about recruiting good luck enforcing that). Clubs can also act as intermediaries. The changes just happened so the latest official commits were really solidified before the rule change last spring. In another year or two you're still going to see a flurry of commitments Sept 1 by juniors. How did that happen if they haven't had "official" visits or recruiting discussions? All the ways listed above.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostYou are partially right. Both “official” and “unofficial” visits, as defined by the NCAA, cannot happen until Sept 1 of your Junior year for NCAA DI schools. What you are talking about, where you visit on your own and don’t meet with the coach, is different and not defined by the NCAA, and therefore can be done anytime because it is in no way related to athletics.
