The GOP has had control of Congress since 2010. What have they done to address those issues? Nothing. I know you didn't like the guy but Obama wouldn't have vetoed programs that helped either. And contrary to what Fox tells you it is possible to do BOTH, be a compassionate country and allow in those fleeing horrific situations AND still take care of our own. Slice 2% off the bloated military budget and change the tax rate for the uber rich back to what it was before Trump gave them the deal of a lifetime. Cash found. Do what Canada did with refugees - give them one year to find jobs and get established. After that they're largely on your own. That's much easier to implement when there is national healthcare. It's about priorities. The GOP would rather keep the rich happy and the poor oppressed, in failing schools and on crumbling roads.

Also, the shutdown is causing more poverty. So, yeah...great idea.

Keeping the poor oppressed makes them more dependent on the government. That doesn't sound very Republican to me. Just saying.

End the shutdown and get the economy back up and running. Have a separate and thorough debate about complete immigration reform and border security. It's a big enough issue that warrants it's own debate. Every week it's shut down the pain goes a little deeper. Even the WH number crunchers have even said the shutdown has shaved over $5B off our growth for the period, the same as he wants to for his wall (with of course will cost far, far more than 5B).
