I’ve been to ecnl showcases the last couple of years. Before GDA , ecnl was the most elite level, right? I’ve seen the best of the best girls from Texas , jersey , California etc. there is nothing out there that is far superior than our better Florida girls. Of course you have a couple of exceptions , but all in all most of the girls selected to these national team camps have the same level as the majority of the better girls from all states. Hooks and politics have always ruled.

My older girl is aging out , but hopefully the new crew demands that scouts at least try and not relay on coaches recommending players. They get expense paid travel to showcases and most spend their time at the hotel bar trying to hit on the soccer moms. Then go watch a portion of a game or two while nursing their hangover. There is zero accountability when the girl doesn’t work out.

For the new GDA parents who are skeptical , you will be surprised! Hopefully with GDA it’s a little different but prob not

The scout system is set up the following way ... (most scouts, some exceptions)

Scout identifies a player (coach recommendation or videos).
Scout is told where player will be participating ( usually showcases)
Scout tries to schedule 4-5 players during the showcase
Scout spend 10-15 mins watching player.

End of scouting, if you think most scouts are just going to sit at a showcase all day you are sadly mistaken.

I love how these clubs brag about how they have the "exclusive pathway to _________ (insert MLS, NWSL, WNT, YNT, etc.)" when it real life the pathway is 2 coaches with cell phones that were roommates in college or were mentored by some older coach or belonged to the same club team when they were younger or played on the same ODP team that traveled to AZ and on and on.

That is the "exclusive pathway."

The best answer to this issue is to have your kid play against the kids on this list. Join the league that features these kids and their teams. Once you do that and have your butt handed to you by these premier girls, you will understand why they were chosen. Many of your kids play in butt ugly leagues and never see the level of these competitors but you want to trash.

The players called into the camp are not the best U14 girls in the country a lot is base on recommendation of April Kater colleagues. If so there wouldnt be 12 2005 players in camp.

Well...there's a lot more transparency now than in the past. Lots of stats are listed on the DA website. Minutes, goals, schedule. Obviously, that doesn't tell the whole story, but it can give you a baseline and an idea of production.

Makes it even more of a head scratcher when you have some girls dominating and passed over, and yet you see forwards called into camp with single digit goals scored in the DA....in some cases, low single digits.

You nailed it, that’s the way it’s always been done. That’s why the US men’s soccer team is amazing. LOL the definition of insanity keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results
