If they were so confident she lied they would have had an investigation right away and have already voted him in. Not going straight to an investigation was a big mistake. He already was acting guilty and his poor performance made him look 100x worse. Phones ringing non stop at every senate offices today. They're finally doing what they should have - at least pretend to take it seriously. They will still vote him in but optics matter.

It's been over from Day 1.The Republicans are letting it go on cause it just keeps bringing up more & more corruption from the Democrats.The longer it goes on the better.

Well then that's a pretty foolish choice on their part because the longer it goes on the worse the GOP looks. Flake, Murkowski and Collins pushed for a delay yesterday which might, just might, help them. But it all depends on what is discovered (if anything), how it's discovered and how transparent the process is. the GOP never wanted an investigation and if they even appear to be hiding anything it won't go well. Support for Kavanaugh wasn't terrific with women to begin with and his appearance on Thursday didn't exactly endear himself to them.

I think Trump and the GOP are nervously awaiting more survey data to see how much more effort they want to put behind Kavanaugh. There are many other conservative judges out there with cleaner backgrounds than this guy. There's time to get one in before January. Sometimes you have to cut bait and move on.

None of this happened with Neil Gorsuch's nomination and the Dems were still very raw from the Merrick Garland denial. A few Dems even voted for Gorsuch. So that claim doesn't hold.


Thing is, even if the accusations prove false, he's shown himself to be very angry, self entitled, partisan and a liar. It's ok to have been a heavy drinker if you own up to it. Lying about small things makes people think you're hiding bigger things. Refusing to have the FBI investigate only makes you look guilty. It's not a good look for a lifetime SCOTUS appointment. Neither Kavanaugh or the GOP seem to have understood that

I don't either (well, other than Kavanaugh's views that the president is untouchable, that's a biggie). There's even some women on the short list. There's enough time to get them through the process and on the bench by January. Is this guy worth the long term costs to the party?
