    Seattle U17’s win GA Cup.

Seattle U17’s wins the GA Cup knocking off Flamengo, River Plate, West Ham, and Valencia en route to the title. Congrats to them. Beyond impressive. Good for US soccer. But no wonder why MLS wants out of DA.

More importantly, MLS has now stated that they will honor training compensation and solidarity payments.....they were forced to because the DA system was actually producing quality talent.....and they were tired of investing with no return.

Who can blame them? It costs a good deal of money to train 80-100 boys every year to maybe get one home grown every other year. If they hadn't gotten that concession for sure they would have walked. Now there's at least a slight chance they stay in DA. However, there's still the issues of poor competition and being told what to do by USSF. Unless BDA moves to a two tier structure or lets MLS operate somewhat differently there's still a risk they leave.

“MLS stated that it won’t pay training compensation for players it signs through the draft or acquires into its youth academies. In addition, if a player was developed with both an MLS club and an independent youth club, MLS said it would only seek the training compensation for themselves and not for other clubs.”

            Schmucks.

I knew this would happen and i hope the rest of the US continues to hoard their own players and not push them towards the academy. Money-sucking vampires.

Training compensation is only due when the club invests in the player. As far as i know only MLS clubs have free youth academy. All other DA teams are pay to play. They dont deserve compensation if the parents paid.

The sole purpose is to stop the bleeding of the top top .01 leaving for Europe before they sign with us. Under current policies players that leave mls academy before they sign a contract with MLS club are free to European clubs.

The new policy is a disincentive for European clubs to bring these Americans with EU passports over. Because they are now more expensive if they Make it.

Recent years some or most promising talent left us MLS academies before there first pro contract and are now worth something. MLS wants there piece of the pie.

The cost to bring in a top American player is peanuts for European clubs. This is the same model that the rest of the works utilizes so the US player will not be disadvantaged. Why should the MLS academies receive zero compensation. Of course they want a return on their investment.

yes 100%. the loophole for 16 or even 18 y.o. was crazy - upside was some kids were taken on fliers, downside was MLS going nuts losing 1st team talent for zero. Now, thank god, we're just like everyone else.

At which ages is it free? Why shouldn't parents be compensated in a similar fashion? Typical of USSF .... will turn this premise on its head to make a buck, and make the entire situation worse than they already have.

How are we like everyone else? 99.99999% of American soccer is still pay to play. MLS aint paying anyone to get the top players so they will still miss many of them. They will simply make a buck every now and again and then hoard their moneys like the petty little misers that they are. This will be the final dagger in DA. If it does not dissolve from its current form this year, then next year (or part of it) will be their last. Imagine you are a non-MLS club, showcasing your talent at DA games next year so MLS clubs can cherry pick your best players and then profit from them less than a year later? You would have to be a fool to put yourself in this position. They steal your best talent and then THEY profit from it? Now, I think the pressure will come from non-MLS clubs to get out sooner rather than later. This system creates even more division and that is NOT what we needed in our youth systems.

Why would non-MLS clubs leave? BDA is their bread and butter and without BDA they're in just another league. MLS clubs are going to cherry pick the best talent regardless of payments or no payments. It's the MLS clubs who were driving the possible BDA breakup. They grew tired of paying to train players and getting little out of it. Now they can possibly profit from their home growns and they'll be more inclined to stay.

Because they are going to get fleeced! Like when the local travel clubs pay local premier clubs to run their operations and the premier clubs simply take the money, take the best players, and then they get fired and leave the travel club in a very messy state. With this new set up, MLS clubs will take the best players from non-MLS clubs (they will see them every time they play) and then the non-MLS clubs will lose their best players, become substantially worse in terms of ability, and then watch the MLS club that stole their U17 player (that has been with them since U7) get signed to a big contract somewhere and get a fat solidarity check. Watch and learn. This new system is going to speed up the process on both sides of dissolution of DA soccer as we know it. Non-MLS clubs are about to get fleeced while picking up the check.
