To pay or not to pay....

Which clubs give you the most for your money? ECNL, GDA, or clubs that play EDP NL ?? Best Training, Best fields, Best coaches, Best chance at playing in college? Do some of the higher priced clubs actually care about player development or is it about the dollar and bragging rights of winning some tournaments? Alot of money is being spent. What really works??

Why to many dependencies to make a definitive statement:

    1) What is your goal? Your kids?
    2) What resources do you have available to you?
    3) What options are in your area?
    4) What other interests do you have?

I would not trust the tourney braggers. Some clubs don't even bring their entire team to the tourneys. Usually they tell many of the committed kids to stay home to give the kids who may not get as much playing time some showcase/tourney time. So winning a tourney vs a team that was playing kids that aren't their top, isn't always a bragging point.

Clubs make their money on being able to show where their players went and getting everyone that wants to play in college into some college (divisions play themselves out during the development process). As someone noted, it's all family & player specific.

ECNL on the girls side, DA on the boys, but boys ECNL is going to be growing in the future.

I agree that ECNL will continue to be the best choice for girls, however Continental FC and FC Bucks are really bad. It is too bad there are not more choices for players in the Philadelphia area.

Maybe ECNL should let Penn Fusion back in for girls.

They were very successful in ECNL and were an original team which was very shocking when ECNL pulled their badge during the "pick one" (USGDA or ECNL) power struggle.

Penn Fusion can send their pre-academy kids to ECNL games then. Or should PA Classics try to get into ECNL? Thoughts?

Don't be so sure Penn Fusion or PA Classics want to be in the ECNL if it means giving up GDA.

Both leagues offer the same college exposure for players and GDA has the added benefit of playing year round at the HS ages. Consumers will realize the better value is GDA. HS soccer is already a bad product and its not getting any better. Chances are ECNL spins up a fall season in the near future to try and keep players. Today's 5th, 6th and 7th graders will decide the future of these leagues!

School sports allow kids to play on teams with players from a more diverse income demographic then any gda team. Gda and ecnl teams are 99 percent full of players from higher level income demographic. Another bubble experience for kids already living in bubbles.

HS is still crappy soccer. I am also pretty certain all of the GDA and ECNL clubs help out families in need.

Why stop with ECNL and GDA? What about the clubs who offer nothing in terms of exposure but can cost more than the ECNL and GDA clubs ?

The poster didn't say giving up the GDA but adding ECNL as an option. Some clubs still have both. The smaller clubs that may not have been able to field competitive teams for both were given the options. These are clubs that it may work having both. Their pre academy teams can go ECNL and play competitive games as well.

correction to above: the smaller clubs were given a decision to make, pick one, by ECNL. Now, maybe ECNL will allow them to have an ECNL badge as well to boost the competition. It's an interesting thought.

There is good and crappy in every league including HS. Comment was just that HS is more out of the bubble then club which is deep in bubble land.

Interesting yes but not likely. PAC is having trouble fielding competitive GDA teams and the PF Pre-academy teams would not do well in the ECNL. There isn't one club in PA capable of supporting GDA, ECNL, ECRL. Stars and PDA are probably the only capable clubs in R1 and they chose to go all in with ECNL for financial reasons.

                            As for HS soccer...
What good does it do an ECNL or GDA type player to play JV or get limited varsity time as a Frosh? Wouldn't that kid be better served in the club environment until they are ready to contribute meaningful minutes each and every game? Assuming its a good club environment and not a local glorified rec team.

And that means jack sh1t. Income has nothing to do with performance on the field and HS soccer sucks.
