How many goals should your child score a season?

If your child plays U12, center mid, what should be a reasonable expectation for goal production over the course of a 9 game season? (don't worry, am focused on her development in other areas as well)

Is this a troll post or real? Seems like this is bait...

The center mid is not a scoring position. It connects the defense with the offence, provides depth in the attack and should be a work horse defensively playing in front of the defensive line and playing behind the fowards on attack. You should be asking how many tackles does the center mid win, what is her pass completion rate and how many assists does she have.

Goals is not a metric a center mid should be tracking. They are nice, but the reality is unless she can shoot accurately and powerfully from outside the 18 or is tall enough on corners to win headers, she will not be scoring a ton of goals from the CM position.

I'm pretty sure in an 18 game season, it's 4.

Hmmm... just when you think you have heard it all. Lets go with 5... no 6... wait maybe 7. Ridiculous thread.

If your child is only playing one position (other than say GK and even then the GK should see some time as a position player), you should be looking for another coach/team.

U12 is still about individual development so the reasonable expectation is "as many as she can". Well, if the coach has put the team in an league that is too easy, then perhaps there is a mercy / good sportsmanship element. Same with assists, passes, ball touch, etc.

Play different positions - you shouldn't specialize as much until the development focus shifts from individuals playing a team game to a team game with role playing individuals.

It doesn't matter where you play on the field, 1 goal per 4 chances in front of net is considered a good finisher.

Good response and I'd add this - if a kid is playing as a center mid, especially one as described above or a classic #6 type, if they have too many goals they're clearly NOT playing the position correctly. If your kid playing the 6 leads your team in scoring, perhaps its worth asking why they aren't distributing the ball correctly to the forwards in scoring positions.

The answer is, of course, 3

Thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then thous totals of goals scored shall be reached.

No it isn't. Maybe for a regular season it mighteth be thou three, but if the players is good one's team should make the play-offs and thus the answer is still 4 when the season is comprised of 18 or more games.
