ECNL is probably not going to be great but will probably last more than a year.

As bad as you think the ECNL is going to be, the only sure thing is that the Academy will be worse.

$8,200 is a lot of money. I hope they do ok.

Not much more than the top travelling teams spend now. You'd know that if your DD was on one of those teams.

Well I finally got a glimpse of OYSA's team list, and there is some interesting teams there. First it looks like BSC sent all their teams and so did NEU for the most part. But if we used last years fall results (00-02's) this is a list of the teams finishes and who is part of the timbers league. and Sorry if some teams changed names.

              Bu12 (02's)
              Last year OPL results:
              OYSA: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th
              OPL: 5th, 8th, 10th, 11th

              Bu13 (01's)
              Last year OPL results:
              OYSA: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th
              OPL: 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th

              Bu14 (00's)
              Last year OPL results:
              OYSA: 1st (FC Portland is playing in the OYSA league), 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th
              OPL: 4th, 10th, 12th

On the boys sides its very lopsided talent wise, but we were all expecting that.

              Gu12 (02's)
              Last year OPL results:
              OYSA: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 15th 16th
              OPL: 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 13th, 14th

              Gu13 (01's)
              Last year OPL results:
              OYSA: 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 16th
              OPL: 1st, 4th, 6th, 9th, 13th, 15th

              Gu14 (00's)
              Last year OPL results:
              OYSA: 3rd, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th
              OPL: 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, 13th, 16th

So in each of the girls division OPL only managed to keep 6 of hte top 16 teams from last year in their league, and in U12 and U13 only 3 teams are from the top division from last year.

Overall looking at those numbers its pretty clear which league has more competition in it.

Gu14 Fcsc only does OPL in fall for npl otherwise it's a "B" team league...Fcsc will do OYSA in the spring so neither league can really claim. Fcsc isn't doing OPL because it will be a better league.

This also doesn't take into effect ecnl players that are gone....for example in gu14's. THUSC silver finished 2nd in fall OPL and just lost 11-0 at lake Oswego cup....OPL teams are depleted and if they were to merge with gu14 OYSA not one of the OPL teams would be in the npl division.

Wow, why would any quality team want to stay in the OPL? Free league fees aren't nearly enough. They need to kick in free Nike passes or something.

All of those girls left for Willamette or FCP. NEU and BSC may be in OYSA this fall but their top 3-4 players all moved to OPL teams. WashT Reds (5th) lost 5 starters, some to OPL teams, and are a shell of their former selves. At this age group, outside of CFC (2nd) and Eugene (3rd), most of the talent is in the OPL.

No different than this past spring and the OPL leagues were just fine without all the TA lemmings and bootballers. Just sayin'

Thanks for the update. As I said i don't know all the ins and outs of all the teams. However, it does show an overall theme.

Very true! The best teams are now ECNL.

Originally when the split happened everyone pretty much agreed the boys belonged to OYSA and that was clearly the stronger side. Which it is.

On the girls side it was much closer and you could make arguments for each side. But you are right with ENCL its pretty clear OYSA has that side as well. Thats not a slap to OPL, its just a side effect of ENCL.

More so than any time in recent history that I remember, there is a lot of competition on the girls side. Clubs are getting better both OPL and OYSA.

There are quality opportunities at Timbers and OPL clubs.
