Based upon all of the posts here from Washington people, I would say the line is completely blurred.

              Rubio Selected for USMNT Friendly

This might end the debate for a while. Rubio was named to the full USMNT roster for the upcoming friendly with the Czech Republic. That's a big deal. Even bigger than whether ECNL will cost $8K or $10K.

Westside Metros Galacticos through U-15. He's from Beaverton and played for the high school team too until he left for Bradenton as part of the US U-17 residency program.

Tiffeny Milbrett is by far and away the best ever.

World Cup Champion and Olympic Gold.

Except that men's soccer is soooo much more competitive today than women's soccer was. Women have been playing the sport for only 35 to 40 years. A great player like Milbrett or Mia Hamm and others could dominate without much problem. You don't see 9-0 games in men's international soccer like you used to with the women's game. There were only four competitive teams; the US, China, Norway, and, to a lesser extent, Germany. So winning championships for Milbrett, while impressive, is not the same. If you compare her to her peers, then yes, she is the best. If measured by the difficulty of the accomplishment then I give the nod to Rubio. Both are great role models and representatives for Oregon.

                        Oregonians

                        Scott Benedetti and Joey Leonetti.

Both like Rubio were called up for friendlies early in their careers.

But were never considered to be that good.

For God Sake M. Harrington the guy who old men dempsey outsprints to the goal gets a call up, he got one just prior to selection.

Time will tell. Relax and let's discuss in 10 years.

I saw what the previous poster said. But I'm going to vote for Milbrett.

Soccer is a whole different ball game today then it was then. But other than the fact Rubio has about 40 youth national team appearances and a dozen goals and plays in Europe at a higher level than either Scott or Joey ever did you might have a point. Let's discuss in two years because by then it won't be close.

The US has not advanced any farther in the WC as they did 20 years ago.

There are much more national youth playing opportunities than there were 20 years ago.

It is not like Rubio signed with the EPL, German, Italian, or Spanish league.

I am sure he is a good player, but he has not arrived yet and may never get there. There have been plenty of player who have been called up for a friendly and never made it.

Men's soccer is more competitively globally, but not so much in the US. American men have only been playing soccer here the last 25 years or so. The best American athletes still do not play soccer beyond middle school. I doubt it if Rubio could play basketball or football. Tiffeny was all state in both basketball and track.

Did you miss the Germany vs. Brazil game? I thought Brazil lost 7-0.
