I would imagine Eastern Washington Surf is sending a few of their older girls’ teams that won WNPL.

Surf Cup truly used to be the 'Best of the Best' as it's own banners and advertising claimed. Often limiting divisions to 2 in order to attract the best teams and making applications fierce! Now it's simply a brand name for bums on seats and income. Still a good tournament, but given the timing, costs and relatively lower level of play on offer, its definitely a diluted version of the tournament it used to be. Better tournaments for much less money out there, it tends to be a status symbol these days not unlike clothing brand labels and the like.

Fields — great at both, maybe a bit better at silver lakes so long as you aren’t in a low bracket and playing on lava turf
Weather — reliably 20 degrees cooler at surf
Overall — a weekend in San Diego always beats a weekend in the Inland Empire

the one big negative about Surf in the past were game times. Halves were 25 minutes at all age groups. Not sure if this has changed nowadays but it was always tough trying to get everyone some decent minutes. In a prestigious tourney, no biggie. It was an honor just to have your team invited. It is just another out of state tourney these days.

Silverlakes is a top tier tournament and in many aspects does a better job than Surf does at a pristine venue. They have consistent drew top D/A, D/A-2, and ECNL teams for both their summer and Thanskgiving tournaments, so NO, it is NOT a rec tournament.
